Caring what the world at large thinks of you is a manacle of the mind.

Is everyone's default position to treat people like crap? I'd say it's not, I'd say indifference is the default position and that one earns respect or contempt by ones words or actions. I do not think giving people apriori respect is a good idea.
In this case, respect doesn't mean obedience or awe or trust, just polite and compassionate behavior.
Well surely it's compassionate if you know that certain costumes may distract some of pupils to tell the person who is distracting to go home and wear a costume that is less distracting? Surely it's polite if you accept and know that not to demand everyone else change biology and behaviour just so you can wear whatever ridiculous pieces of cloth you wish?

Now, at a school dance, which is essentially a copulation ritual, I'd say there should be a more relaxed attitude to dressing up, but not in class.

Also, in my experiences and from hearing my wife and her friends, the people who have most issue with the way young women dress are other women. So before we start blaming young boys for all this, how about we look at the boards who are making these demands and seeing if in fact it is not also women who have to be taught to respect young women. Or perhaps we could just say "don't dress like a whore at school", millions of young girls manage that every single day without blaming men.
Oh, Audley, give it a rest, will you?

I'm personally in favour of females wearing school uniform up to the age of 45.

No, the issue I have with your response here is that our discussion up to that point was about why people should treat each other with respect. Despite that fact that I was explicit in saying that both boys and girls needed to learn how to treat people respectfully (and I explained what I meant by the use of the word), you decided to take my responses as a leaping off point to rant about how everyone wants to blame the little boys for everything.

I've got a little boy of my own. One who already seems to like the little ladies, judging by his kissing propensities. I'm not looking to blame him for the ills of the world. I am trying to explain to him that not every little girl he likes wants a hug and a kiss-- strange as that may be.

I don't know, Audley. I wish you'd talk to me if you're talking to me-- not use my words as a place to balance your soapbox.

If they went by how old you look, you'd still have another 20 years in uniform to go.

I was making the point that it's hypocritical to demand respect while the clearly have none for the people they demand respect from. That's not everyone, that's just a bunch of vocal nutcases. So while I do accept that YOU think that should be mutual, the topic under discussion clearly shows others who don't. Not everyone wants to blame little boys for everything, but not everyone is you.

Yeah but you, like the majority of people, are not a vindictive nutcase looking to blame men for everything are you?

Tell me, why should I give respect a screeching vile cunt like this?

Any more than I should give respect to people like Tod Akin?

Here - leggings banned as pants in one junior high school (middle school - ages 12 and 13). http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2013/04/0 ... 46043.html

After parents protested -- they allowed yoga pants to be worn at school.

Parents protested? Really? "This is an outrage! My 12 year old should be wearing yoga pants to school!" I just don't get why they would protest that...
