It's difficult to believe the cowboys could make the same mistakes every generation, so it's tempting to look for a hidden agenda to explain what really happened.

But what if they're just delusional?
Climate change is a multi-century emergency...no chance for that one I guess?

McDonalds. We never brought in McDonald's, that's the problem. Or Amazon. How can you turn them into good little Westernized consumers without Micky D's and Amazon?
Yeah well that's just, like, your opinion, man.

Not if we're relying on changing our behavior.

The hidden agenda is the defence or expansion of a nation's power. That is how the US got itself entangled with Afghanistan in the first place. Its support of the Mujahideen to the tune of billions of dollars was a proxy war with the USSR. Things spun out of control when the USSR withdrew from Afghanistan, the Mujahideen were ousted by its own offspring, the Taliban, who became to be perceived the next threat after the destruction of the World Trade Centre.

Of course a lot of fuckups ensued. Instead of taking measures against Saudi Arabia and Pakistan the US decided to punish Afghanistan and Iraq.

That's hardly hidden given a hermit from Australia's got it figured out.

I meant an understanding of what happened that could shed light on why it's actually been a success e.g. aufbahrung's China angle, bizarre as it is. :hehe:

Yeah, that's what's in the pamphlet. But what have they actually been doing? That's the temptation when faced with acknowledging some of the smartest people continue to make the same mistakes over and over...

I'd be interested to read someone who's had a crack at offering an explanation that focuses on some kind of delusional thinking.

Disengage to re-engage. Can't kill the Taliban while their hiding in the hills. But now?

Are we gonna Shock-N-Awetm their asses again? Last time was pretty cool.

I remember the first Iraq war (Kuwait version). I was working in Atlanta, and the night it all kicked off we had a poker game going at my apartment. There was a live feed from Baghdad, you could see the missiles hitting and bombs exploding. One of the youngsters kept watching the TV, saying "Jesus Christ, we're at war!". My mate Brian (Nam vet) said "We're always at fucking war. You gonna play or what?"

'Rumors That The Taliban Have Taken Over Are Unfounded,' Says Jen Psaki Wearing Hijab
Image
WASHINGTON, D.C.—Many are expressing concerns over how far the Taliban has managed to advance after Press Secretary Jen Psaki gave her latest press conference while wearing an Islamic Hijab.

"No, there is nothing to worry about, Alhamdulillah, Allah be praised," said Psaki. "The Taliban poses no danger to the U.S. and they definitely have not advanced as far as Washington, D.C. Everything is fine here."

It's about as stupid as every Boebert tweet. But as some 30 or 40 people see my tweet to her there, it's worth a response. To my friends there. This is not.

On MSNBC, a Taliban spokesperson denies reports the Taliban is hunting down people who worked with Americans in Afghanistan, but says there might be criminals "posing as Taliban"

Twitter should ban the Taliban. Unless, of course, their rules are enforced unfairly...
