I think financially, McKinnon has done the US a favour.

How much would it have cost them, to pay a top consultancy to find the weaknesses in their IT systems?
He did it for free. And he got it right. What he did was save the US millions, and prove that the weaknesses were actually real, not theoretical.
Because if he could do it, China could do it.

Interesting that he's not being extradited because of questions about his human rights. It tends to suggest that there are ethical problems with extraditing anyone to the U.S...

Bearing in mind that American prisons bear a much closer resemblance to those you see in the third world than to those you seen in the UK (or most of the first world); and bearing in mind how politicised the American justice system is; it could well be said there's a very good case to be made for denying all extraditions to the U.S.

We signed up on the understanding that the US would sign later... at some unspecified point. Blair obviously forgot that historically, the US has an aversion to signing treaties.
