Douglass Mackey, also known as “Ricky Vaughn,” was convicted today by a federal jury in Brooklyn of the charge of Conspiracy Against Rights stemming from his scheme to deprive individuals of their constitutional right to vote. The verdict followed a one-week trial before United States District Judge Ann M. Donnelly. When sentenced, Mackey faces a maximum of 10 years in prison.

Breon Peace, United States Attorney for the Eastern District of New York, and Michael J. Driscoll, Assistant Director-in-Charge, Federal Bureau of Investigation, New York Field Office (FBI), announced the verdict.

“Mackey has been found guilty by a jury of his peers of attempting to deprive individuals from exercising their sacred right to vote for the candidate of their choice in the 2016 Presidential Election,” stated United States Attorney Peace. “Today’s verdict proves that the defendant’s fraudulent actions crossed a line into criminality and flatly rejects his cynical attempt to use the constitutional right of free speech as a shield for his scheme to subvert the ballot box and suppress the vote.”

Jason Donner, a former reporter for Fox News, is suing the right-wing network for retaliation and discrimination, alleging the conservative cable giant fired him because he opposed Fox’s “false coverage of the January 6th insurrection.”

Donner, who started at the network in 2010 and worked his way up to Capitol Hill reporter and producer, was terminated by the network in the fall of 2022. Since then, he has gone to work for Rep. Brian Fitzpatrick (R-PA) as a senior adviser.

Fox News did not immediately respond to a request for comment.

Donner’s lawsuit, filed Sept. 27 in D.C. Superior Court, accuses Fox News of violating the D.C. Human Rights Act, including three counts of discrimination, retaliation, and wrongful termination. Donner claims in the suit that while “he did not share many of the views expressed by Fox News' Opinion page, or the evening hour television commentators, it did not impact his ability to report on Capitol Hill news until the wake of the 2020 election.”

Not being familiar with the D.C. Human Rights Act, I wonder how he's claiming 'wrongful termination.' It would think a propaganda outlet would be able to fire somebody who won't toe their line as long as they followed the niceties like paying out on the remainder of his contract.

So as well as you not appearing to know anything about the person who inspired your complaint, it seems that a jury of his peers ultimately decided his guilt and not the media, and that he was convicted for the fraudulent criminality of attempting to deprive individuals of their constitutional right to vote and not for just making a meme.

But people who value freedom of speech (it's a US thing, you wouldn't be allowed it) or people who value equal application of the law, may find it alarming that a joke which tricked NO people into losing their vote, is prosecuted years after the fact.

Mackey was arrested 7 days after Biden was inaugurated. For a senile, confused old man he moves pretty fast. But this also means that the investigation that preceded the arrest was conducted under Trump.
