Re: We Need To Talk About Donald
He's going to send Lenny and Ivan after each troublemaker!
Nevertheless, Trump, who when angered has turned on Republicans on numerous occasions in the past, is putting his considerable political weight behind a proposal crafted by House Speaker Paul D. Ryan (R-Wis.) that would represent a powerful if symbolic achievement for the president and the speaker if the House approves it. Even if it passed, the legislation would face an uphill battle in the Senate.

"Don't look at me. I didn't even want this job."Rex Tillerson: 'I didn't want this job … my wife told me I'm supposed to do this'
Secretary of state said he had not met Donald Trump before he was summoned to Trump Tower to discuss ‘the world’ and was offered the role
Rex Tillerson has said he did not want to be US secretary of state and only took the job because his wife convinced him to do it.
The former ExxonMobil oil executive revealed his initial reluctance in an interview published after a controversial trip to Asia and hours before the biggest event of his two months at the state department, an international meeting on Wednesday about how to fight Islamic State (Isis).
“I didn’t want this job. I didn’t seek this job,” Tillerson told the Independent Journal Review (IJR), in an interview conducted on his official plane during the three-nation Asia trip. “My wife told me I’m supposed to do this.”
He said he had not met Donald Trump before being summoned to Trump Tower after the surprise election victory, ostensibly to talk to the president-elect “about the world” and his experiences as an oil company CEO....

People think "queue" is just "q" followed by 4 silent letters.
But those letters are not silent.
They're just waiting their turn.

I can live with that. The government that governs best governs least. Maybe we can draw the line here, and start pushing it back.Tero wrote:So far so good. They can't pass anything at all.

Re: We Need To Talk About Donald
The GOP can't be seen to lose face here. It would also be damaging for the Trump administration if it's first foray into legislation floundered and sank. If it looks like the vote isn't a sure thing they'll delay and spend a few days making promises or threats as required. Those holding out for a harder pruning of Trumpcare are just as likely targets to be swung as those holding out for softer pruning. In fact, those looking to strip more out of Trumpcare probably have more sway at the moment. If the Senate can't be relied on the Bill will languish while the GOP and the administration brief the FAKE NEWS!! media about how the 'losers' are blocking the will of the people yadda-yadda.Forty Two wrote:I can live with that. Nobody's talked about who or what body drafted the Bill - not who's sponsoring it's passage, but who actually formulated the structure, collated the material, and settled on the language. Any ideas anyone? Was it Ryan's Office, Trump's team, or was it outsourced to, say, the legal team of a large medical insurance company?

Re: We Need To Talk About Donald
Are you really sure about that? Taken to a logical extreme, it implies heading towards less and less government action, in a progression that heads towards zero government. The odd Sethian-style fanatic might fantasise about such an outcome, but not in the real world...Forty Two wrote:

Perhaps we are really looking for some optimum level of government action, with clear excess interference being sub-optimal in one direction, and failure to act (such as in environmental protection) being sub-optimal in the other.
Who decides which level is the best? Hopefully, after intelligent political debate, the people of a given nation will show, by their choices on polling day, whether a given government has got the balance right in that place, and those times...

Yep. It's a massive transfer of wealth from the poor to the rich. Welcome to Conservatism 101.
Aye Jim. For some it seems the ideal form of government is no government at all. But one has to ask, who does lo-2-no government benefit most?JimC wrote:Are you really sure about that? "Surely not many working men are anarchists, and surely if they were, mere mobs could not beat modern armies and police?”
“Mere mobs!” repeated his new friend with a snort of scorn. “So you talk about mobs and the working classes as if they were the question. You’ve got that eternal idiotic idea that if anarchy came it would come from the poor. Why should it? The poor have been rebels, but they have never been anarchists; they have more interest than anyone else in there being some decent government. The poor man really has a stake in the country. The rich man hasn’t; he can go away to New Guinea in a yacht. The poor have sometimes objected to being governed badly; the rich have always objected to being governed at all. Aristocrats were always anarchists."

Follow the money:
Last night, Donald Trump held a fundraising dinner for House Republicans -- and raked in $3O,OOO,OOO. In one single night.
Tomorrow, House Republicans will vote to repeal the Affordable Care Act -- stripping health care from millions to hand these same megadonors massive tax breaks.

Jesus Fucking Christ have CTR/Shareblue taken over this forum, I have to ask as they should know we have no power in the real world.
We should be MOST skeptical of ideas we like because we are sufficiently skeptical of ideas that we don't like. Penn Jillette.
