They might worry that someone could ring a device in a bag in the luggage department. Doesn't explain why devices which aren't phones or anything like them are doing there though.

But then, these people are fucking morons as they've proven time and again.

During FBI interviews in February and March, the document says, Roberts told investigators he hacked into in-flight entertainment systems aboard aircraft. He claimed to have done so 15 to 20 times from 2011 to 2014.
He also said, according to the document, that once he had hacked into the systems and then overwrote code, enabling him to issue a "CLB," or climb, command.
"He stated that he thereby caused one of the airplane engines to climb resulting in a lateral or sideways movement of the plane during one of these flights," the document says.

Yeah, that's a good idea - playing with a planes engines while you're on the plane. Moron.

This article casts doubt on the accuracy of the story.

Sounds dubious. Engines don't "climb". They provide thrust.

Well, he is a security expert, not a plane engine expert. When you google it, you will find that there are "CLB" commands in aircrafts. When have seen so many hacks of allegedly secure systems, I wouldn't exclude the possibility that it is possible to influence the flight system of a plane when hacking into the entertainment console.

I would've thought an entertainment console would be on a separate network.

In the article you linked to, it is not clear, whether this has happened or not. There are a lot of "I believe"s and "maybe"s. The security expert said that he was misrepresented by the FBI, but he wouldn't say what he actually has or has not done.

:sigh: Let me rephrase the question: Has anybody excluded the possibility that it is possible to influence the flight system of a plane when hacking into the entertainment console?

Fuck me sideways :what:
People think "queue" is just "q" followed by 4 silent letters.

But those letters are not silent.

They're just waiting their turn.
