There is, of course, a continuum of personal freedom vs community responsibility and duty. It seems to be a continual struggle to find the sweet spot, in any given time and any given societal context. Coronavirus has placed new constraints on this process.

it's a really fucking alien idea.
Of course it is. It is for EVERYONE. Except of course for those who were alive in 1918.

I gotta admit, I'd have a problem with almost ALL those rules, and I would most definitely have a problem with a soldier telling me I had to abide by them. I don't know how I would react, honestly, it's a really fucking alien idea. You're telling me I can't leave my house for more than an hour a day? I can only go HOW far from my fucking house??? That would absolutely not work around here, there would be dead people.
I don't think so. There are curfews currently in parts of Florida because of the Coronavirus situation. There were curfews in parts of Florida in June because of BLM protestes. There were curfews in parts of Florida in 2017 after Hurrican Irma (That is even after the storm while there wasn't any more danger).

On the other hand, I was threatened by a Fascist in Colorado for wanting to open a bottle of wine at a picnic.

How repressive is that?
Interesting... but you're not telling the whole story, was the fascist uniformed? did he give cogent or legal arguments to disapprove of your desire?

Numbers still rising in Germany. And it's those pesky party tourists. Young people going to the Balcans, Turkey or Spain, partying there without any self-restraint, intermingling with stupid people from other countries, then returning home and spreading the virus there further.

Jim, that is a police state FFS. Well it is on track for the dehumanisation of society. When are these restrictions going to be removed?

Super interesting article about what we can learn about Covid-19 from the common cold viruses:

The Brits just adjusted their figures with a reduction 5000 odd deaths. Nice one.

The military in the streets would cause big problems here, and if they came to your home? Wouldn't go down well. People are scared, angry, and armed. Not a good combination. You should see the shit on my FB feed from some of the local militia types, they can't wait to start shooting. 30 million gun sales in the first 6 months of the year.

The problem I have with (some) of those regulations is they make no sense in our situation. I'm no more contagious 10 miles from my house than I am 5 miles from it, and since the whole fucking state is an infectious swamp it would have zero impact on disease spread.

Either masks work or they don't, either social distancing works or it doesn't. If they do then shopping for one hour or two makes no difference. Curfews make no difference. Exercising longer makes no difference.

I've no problem with mandatory masks, BTW, or social distancing. But those other restrictions simply wouldn't fly here, not without significant and probably violent pushback.
Yeah well that's just, like, your opinion, man.
