Victorian case numbers are currently hovering at a bit over 400 new cases and 10 new deaths per day. At least not going up exponentially. Hopefully, next week will show a decrease when the mask wearing and other restrictions start to work, given the usual time lag...

Dr. Vineet Menachery, a coronavirus researcher at the University of Texas Medical Branch, told NPR's Weekend Edition that one of the more likely scenarios is that the spread of COVID-19 will eventually be slowed as a result of herd immunity. He said he'd be surprised "if we're still wearing masks and six feet distancing in two or three years," and that in time, the virus could become no more serious than the common cold.

Well Ireland has gone completely bonkers. Three counties locked down. Facemasks everywhere. Secondary schools are reopening but teachers and pupils have to wear face-coverings at all time for the whole day. Imagine how many kids will stick to that and the state of the face-coverings by the end of the day. How many will change their masks? Teachers are complaining about the lack of visual contact. No where in the Irish government's info is there any mention of any scientific evidence. Dehumanisation complete.

How do I use a face covering?

You should always wash your hands before putting on your face covering (barrier mask). Avoid touching it while you are wearing it and if you accidently touch the front, wash your hands straight away.

Make sure that the material fully covers your nose and mouth. You should check that it is tied securely and fits snugly against the side of your face.

Keep your spare face coverings in a clean, waterproof bag (such as a ziplock bag). You should carry a similar bag for used face coverings. Label these bags clearly so that you do not mix them up.

If you are a smoker, do not lift up your face covering to smoke. Instead, remove it completely and place it in your ‘used’ ziplock bag.

When you are removing your face covering, do so using the strings at the back. Do not touch the front.

If your face covering is disposable, throw it in a bin immediately after use. If it is re-usable, you should wash it in hot water (60 degrees or hotter) with detergent.

Some of those looking for good news have been especially focused on the heterogeneity of the T-cell aspects of the immune response, because a handful of studies have found that a quite significant number of people unexposed to the coronavirus nevertheless exhibited what are called “cross-reactive” T-cell immune responses to the disease. In other words, you didn’t necessarily need to catch COVID-19 for your T-cells to know how to fight it, because previous exposure to similar coronaviruses (chiefly the common cold) had already taught your immune systems how to respond to this one.
