More likely imo. Disruption at the fringes will destabilise the centre if the centre is only focused on itself.

Haha you suckers voted for this! Your planes will keep crashing. Don't fly, just drive. Oh wait...the highway money is gone too.

Everett Kelly, president of the American Federation of Government Employees, which represents 800,000 federal workers, told Reuters: “Today’s ruling is a setback in the fight for dignity and fairness for public servants. But it’s not the end of that fight.”

And Trump pushes Canada as the 51st state again.............
What does he hope to gain from this? If it some kind of negotatring rrieck, it is backfiring.
And it is just a nutty idea.
WHat he had done is make the Canadians, who usually sort of consider openly Patriotic displays to be sort of bad form (to use a British expressing) into a bunch of Maple Leaf FLag waving patriots overnight.' FLag sales are booming in Canada.
And Saturday is Canada's Natoinal FLag day. Going to be quite the display, I think.
And Canadians are remembering exactly who they are guarding against in their national anthem.
Besides, if Canada were to become a state it would be solid blue and probably ensure a Democratic advantage in elections. Makes no sense.

He
meUmmm... why? If you remove Trump, you would still have a republican president. It would just be Vance. (The only difference is that they might have reupholster the couches in the oval office.)
This is Trump's biggest problem. He is MAGA's best con man. The revolution would end with Vance, de Santis or any other Mini-Trump.

Money already studies tariffs, constantly.
Anyway, if you hope to gain traction with voters you could do worse than explaining why something you think they’re stupid to believe in has worked, and is working for others. We have lower tariffs than many! —lol— And just the threat of increasing ours has lead to multiple concessions from others eg India lowering its tariffs and agreeing to buy more US oil and gas.

Re: All Things Trump: The Return Of The King
The US has had low tariffs for a long time. But even where rates are similar, like between the US and EU, important differences may be hidden by the averages. For example, the US imposes something like a 2% tariff on most auto imports, compared to the EU’s 10%. Also, as discussed before with Canada, the EU has higher tariffs on key agricultural products.
The point is everybody is using tariffs to protect what they think is important, while we’re all told tariffs don’t work! Anyway, why should anyone be considered stupid for not taking someone’s word for it, or not getting it.

Re: All Things Trump: The Return Of The King
Fuhrerbunker Trump
Donald has chosen Putin over American allies.
REPORTER: Today you talked about having 3 way talks with Xi and Putin. What do you say to European leaders who say you're more keen to speak to America's adversaries than allies?
TRUMP: We told the European Union and NATO people you have to pay more money, because it's unfair what you're doing, at the same time, we had a very good conversation with President Putin
Trump on Canada's military spending: "If they had to pay just something modestly fair, they wouldn't be able to succeed as a country, and that's why I feel they have to become a state.
Canada has been very bad to us on trade, but now Canada is gonna have to start paying up ... they think we're gonna protect them, with our military, which is unfair. Canada is gonna be a very interesting situation because we just don't need their product ... Canada is gonna be a very serious contender to be our 51st state."
The Trump quotes above that Andy xxxx is providing are yet more evidence that Trump is a mentally unfit for the office. He's either seriously mentally declining or just an idiot...or both.
Remember, he's already decided the American people betrayed him in 2020. The fuhrerbunker mentality is not out of the question.

Re: All Things Trump: The Return Of The King
That’s a good question Mac. The US does import a significant amount of aluminum, about 30% according to wiki. The argument put forward by this administration is that tariffs are necessary to protect existing production, and even increase it for national security purposes. The idea I guess is to encourage improvements by US companies, and to attract foreign investment.

Re: All Things Trump: The Return Of The King
Um think your numbers are suspect there Sean.
Then of course there is oil....the US is HIGHLY dependent on Canadian crude from Alberta because it does not have refining capacity for the oil type the US produces.
None of oil, aluminum or electricity plants can be be built within the dumpfs term even if he did ignore the EPA
Canada was 4th behind, China, India and Russia. The US aluminum smelting industry is small by global standards. Total smelter capacity in the country was just 1.73% of the global total according to the US Geological Survey.3 days ago
About half of all aluminum used in the U.S. is imported, with Canada its number one supplier.3 days ago
Balance of trade in electricity is nearly equal between US and Canada.Electricity imports to the U.S. 2000-2023 https://www.statista.com/statistics/183 ... y-imports/
Oct 25, 2024 — The United States imported 38.92 terawatt-hours of electricity in 2023 from its neighboring countries Canada and Mexico.
That said - because electricity is not storable, those states dependent on Canadian power are greatly impacted.Monthly average exports from the United States to Canada in 2023 increased 70% on a year-over-year basis to 1,809 gigawatthours (GWh), while monthly average imports from Canada to the United States decreased by 36% to 3,315 GWh. In 2023, the United States remained a net importer of Canada’s power on an annual basis, but the amount of electricity received fell sharply from 42 terawatthours (TWh) in 2022 to 15 TWh in 2023. The decline in imports from Canada was large enough that by September 2023 the United States switched to become a net electricity exporter to Canada, which continued for five of the next nine months, according to EIA’s Quarterly Electricity Imports and Exports Report.
