Re: Capitalism is just another human system

Post by macdoc » Tue Feb 06, 2024 12:42 am

In ALL systems involving human endeavour there is the "temptation"... interesting choice of word...to abuse their power/position....and I don't need to give you a list.

One of the metrics for GINI is lack of gov corruption.

One of the faiures of corporate power and the govs under which they exist is the failure to rein in "good ol boys" boards of directors who are often incestuous instead of independent.
Govs fail to corral them and Auditors General are not given the teeth to curb abuses..only to report them.

Temptation runs across ALL human interactions, from a father eyeing a newly nubile daughter to a weapons maker management supplying both sides of a conflict without regard to moral position to a bishop abusing little boys in their care.
It is always a CHOICE to act on that temptation.

In all areas of human society and its components...from domestic to corporate to military to unions to gov agencies there needs much better checks and balances with the power to actually act on egregious behaviour.

Humans have attempted even to check sovereign states acting out....with limited success by way of of the UN but mostly by detente and threat.

Like all the human interations mentioned....a capitalist system is subject to a combination of codified laws AND the decisions of those in power to abide by them....from dad and dottor to Israel and Palestine...choices are made...nothing is inherent.

I find it interesting, over my lifetime, that the excuse "just following orders" doesn't cut it any more as a defence against abuses....it's always a choice. :coffee:

Probably better to merge into the other capitalism thread - capitalism is the best solution to poverty (or something like that). This one was a piss take.

As pErvy said, if one's survival is necessarily dependent on devoting your calories to increasing the prosperity of another person or entity, and you have no choice in that, then you are a slave. If the root of that money-making exercise is the untrammelled exploitation and eventual depletion of the Earth's natural resources, upon which all life depends, then the end-game of that system is the eradication of life on Earth. We have the knowledge and understanding, and the technical means, for our species to live well and in balance with other species and the natural world; to replace capitalism with systems which meet all our material needs, protect the environment, replenish the resource upon which we rely, and which promote and secure fundamental human rights and the freedom to pursue our interests and passions - both individually and as a species. I'm calling that alternative 'Total Ecological Luxury'. Sisters and brothers and others: Join me, the only thing you have to lose are your mental chains and your contractual obligations to you line manager!

Untrammeled Exploitation would be a good name for a band. A nerdty one. (it has one L google says)
