The alien spacecraft at the centre of the comet jettisoned behind the sun, and is now sitting and waiting for the right time to attack.

Ermagerd! It's a beaut.

Is everyone at NASA stuffed and/or asleep? It's not 'fragments' FFS. LASCO has 1 megapixel resolution, expect artifacting. Derp.

I get paid now?

earthsky.org says there's still some signs of life, but I kinda doubt my 90mm scope would pick up enough to motivate me to drive 4 hours over a mountain range, through the snow and ice to the east coast and freeze my balls off.

Incidentally, ISON is fragmented, and lost about 2/3rds of its mass due to 'ionization blow-off' [that is the matter that was ionized by solar radiation and 'blown away' by the same], but there's still a solid nucleus. How much closer could you get than that?

It was apparently visible in Australia a week or so ago just before dawn. I was up one morning at that time (hadn't gone to bed yet), but it was too cold to go outside and look. That's just an excuse. I get a bit vampire like if I see the sun coming up.

Yeah, me too. What's shit me off the most is, because of this comet, I found out about that comet that Mac referenced which was highly visible and bright in Australia. But there was simply no media about it. Compare that the stupid Halley's Comet and all the hype over it.

You kinda expect big comets in Australia it being a oddball continent. :read:

Yeah, spose. We seems to miss most of the biggest meteor showers. Not happy about that.

Yep. Turns out there were/are 3 more comets out there right now, but none got any press because they're not naked-eye comets. I guess people into astronomy enough to have a telescope keep up with that sort of thing. Btw, when I saw Halley's Comet, I looked at the owner of the telescope like, 'Wtf. I drove all the way out here to see that?' It was about like looking at a cotton ball in a darkly lit room from about 10 feet away.

That said, I'm sure there's already another one on the way somewhere. We may still get lucky sometime in the next 3~500 years. :levi:
