Greed is always there. Reason made the technology which allowed it to become a issue with the potential to cause a worldwide socio-economic collapse. Technology was a product of interested reasoning people.

It was the total opposite. Reason would have led them to realise they had inflated a huge bubble that could only burst, which of course it did. Greed kept them from realising it - greed and ignorance..

Without the advances in communications technology at the time the bubble would have burst far earlier, as these things did throughtout the previous century. Reason made the technology available for the 'little mans' greed to be amplified. Without the equipment to make the bubble it wouldn't have existed.

And that same process created medical science. Which has saved far more lives than reason supposedly killed. Science is apolitical, as it should be. What politicians/society do with science is a socio-political problem, and rarely involves much reason.

The simple minded thinking of the likes of Scrumple miss the point entirely. Fox was suggesting that it was the drift away from religion and more reliance on 'reason' which led to the rise of Hitler and then the holocaust. This is patently not the case.

Even The Great Depression which gave rise to the economic conditions which led to widespread resentment of the successful German Jewish minority had it's roots in new technology and idiotic faith in the ticker-tape driven stock markets of the time. Reason was that the bubble could not burst and all the problems had been solved since technology was progressive. Reason was wrong but it was still reason. Fox today isn't far wrong. It is a type or aspect of religion, or culture, which is introspective and contemplative which was lost in the false optimism of the dumbing up decade prior to the Holocaust. Even today it is a huge hole in the global culture that remains unfilled, a vacuum of the imagination and deep thinking we so desperately need to solve the issues of this time. There are too many cell phones and too few thinkers...it will happen again and this time it will be far worse.
