I had a phone conversation the other day where someone claimed that he couldn't trust some of his staff to fill out a simple spreadsheet properly.

The mistake some of my colleagues have made over the years, is to equate general knowledge of tech to a general intelligence and sneer at people for the lack of it.
I don't and that, I believe, is why I make a reasonable tech support dude. (Not my "day" job any more, but I'm always happy to help.)
