The police aren't required to disclose any evidence to the suspect be it exculpatory, or inculpating, before arraignment. I don't have a problem with that, myself; indeed, I think that simply asking the suspect for his accounting of events, and comparing that to the evidence at hand, is likely to produce a better picture of events, by not cluttering the suspect's mind. Memory is a delicate thing, and should be left alone as much as possible.

I do think that the legality of lying to a suspect about evidence in their possession is bullshit, though. I think that telling a suspect "we've got a guy who'll put you at the scene with a gun in your hand" is corrosive of justice, n the sense that it undermines faith in the system.
these are things we think we know
these are feelings we might even share
these are thoughts we hide from ourselves
these are secrets we cannot lay bare.

Where does it contradict that? Zimmerman doesn't make a plea till mid May.
Who is claiming otherwise?

The point is not that the evidence had to be given to Zimmerman, but rather that the prosecutor was obligated to take the evidence into account when deciding whether to file charges and what charges to file.

According to that, he's waived his arraignment hearing. And requested disclosure of particulars of the case by April 27th.
So it would appear that Coito's Harvard professor was talking bollocks about the non-disclosure of the photo.

I think this is some type of record; as far as I remember, it's the only serious Ratz topic that has reached a length requiring locking and starting a "topic continued" thread...

Another stupid thing in Zimmerman's "apology". He said, "I didn't know how old he was, I thought he was a little bit younger than me".
But he's already told the 911 operator that the kid was in his late teens, before he even killed him. So he made an accurate assessment of his age, even from a distance.

So he's showing that he's happy to change his story, to a more favourable one, now that he's having to answer for killing him. That's going to colour how the jury regards his testimony.

With this kind of defense and reasoning we could have and additional thousands of murders claiming the same thing.
It's just a fact. If I walk out of my house today, and someone is walking in my neighborhood, I am 100% within my rights to walk up to that person and say "hey, what are you doing here?"
so would that also mean I can just walk through your neighborhood, I can walk up to a person that looks suspicious to me and ask them what they're doing there?

I just read that Sean Penn has chimed in again on that topic. But that's for another thread...not that it would be any more fun than this one, tho. :hehe:
