Fair bet there's already a swarm of Predators buzzing around, looking for things to do...
I'm going to take my camera out tomorrow and see if I can show you all a sample of the increase in airborne activity that's been going on latetly. We seem to be under an ROKAF flight path.
Won't you get thrown in gaol for taking photos?
If I went to the air base and started snapping pics, I imagine so. I'm sure I'll be fine if I just take a picture from whereve

Don't take pictures of anything with a black-and-white checkerboard pattern outlined in red on it.

:dono: Will keep it in mind, though. :shifty: No connection to these guys, I guess:

Unit 684
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Jump to: navigation, search
Unit 684 was an expendable and unorthodox South Korean "black ops" team whose mission was to kill the North Korean president.

The unit was set up by the Chief of Korean Central Intelligence Agency (KCIA) on the orders of President Park Chung-hee. The Defense Ministry said the unit in question was a detachment of the ROK Air Force’s Squadron 2325, which recruited 31 convicted Death Row criminals for a 'deep penetration' mission on April 1, 1968. One that was essentially a suicide mission, but the convicts were promised their freedom and a new start, if they achieved the mission's aim. Faced with the alternative, they accepted, and Unit 684 was born.

Mimicking North Korea's Unit 124, which had earlier failed to assassinate the South Korean President, Unit 684 was made up of 31 men, and the Unit's mission was to assassinate the then-leader of North Korea, Kim Il-Sung.

The number of the unit, 684, stands for April 1968 when the unit was founded. The members, being expendable, were trained harshly on the remote deserted island of Silmido Island in the Yellow Sea, off the coast of Inchon.

After about three years of rigorous training, during which seven of them died, Unit 684 set off in rubber inflatable boats towards North Korea on their mission. However, en route, it was terminated, and the members forcibly turned back by their instructors. This was because the Korean governments were now looking towards a peaceful reunification.

In August 1971, the KCIA cancelled the mission for good, ordering the instructors to terminate all Unit 684 trainees, and erase all evidence of the project. Before they could be murdered, the Unit 684 members rose up to kill their overseers.

They then attempted to make their way to the Blue House (South Korean President's House) in a rebellion. Most of them, however, committed suicide with hand grenades when roadblocked, and confronted by government troops, before they could cross the Han River. The survivors were sentenced to death by a Military tribunal.

The story of the unit is loosely told by the Korean movie Silmido (2003.) (Subtitled).

I'd love to see that movie re-made by a good director. It wasn't bad, but it could have been better.

Well, the North Korean leaders are clearly insane past the point of basic survival instincts. If they attack South Korea in some way, or take out a beachfront Honolulu hotel, then the US will probably nuke the stupid bastards. And they should. They might do it to an army base, but maybe they'll nuke Pyongyang. It's a ghost town and a Potempkin village, so they might target it. Do you think they will, FBM? And are you worried at all about dirty bombs? :dono:

Yeah, it's crossed my mind a time or two. Right now I'm way out in the rice paddies. As far as I know there are no militarily significant targets out here. But what do I know?

If I were a commander, I'd do selective strikes on their 1) nuclear facilities, 2) missile launching sites, 3) whatever communication hubs are known and 4) fuel depots. I don't think their air or naval forces amount to much and their ground forces, though large, are poorly-equipped and probably can't be supplied sufficiently to sustain a major engagement. Not only that, defectors from the DPRK military report that genuine morale is much lower than the propaganda declares. Like, no shit. They say that the major reason people join the military is to get a guaranteed supply of food, shelter and clothing, however minimal it is. Oh, and I'd bomb the shit outta that huge, hideous, sham 'hotel' in Pyongyang. The Pyongyang subway is thought to be the deepest in the world and even a nuke wouldn't be able to take out the Dear Leader if he were huddled up there.

I was thinking of insignias, but I'll keep that in mind. You wouldn't happen to be able to find an image you could post, would you? Might come in handy some day... :shifty:

Supply depot/ammo dumps...yes.

They can't do much with their old MIGs and Soviet-era tanks. USFK and USAF will have air superiority in a matter of hours. Troops can't do much without Intel or transport. There's the DMZ, remember. Heavily mined, monitored and barricaded against both tanks and infantry. Whatever tried to charge through it would be easy targets. Their trump cards are missiles and the fear of them being already nuked up. The USFK and ROK have more than enough surface-to-air anti-missile placements to counter short and intermediate-range threats, according to a recent news story, anyway. Long-range missle bases and nuke sites should be given priority, especially in light of the long-standing nuclear development issue as it carries a lot of international political currency. Supply depots are particularly crucial in this situation, as an army travels on its belly, and theirs are already pretty hungry from the get-go.

Not that I've thought about it much.

A tank is a tank. Kill them. Same with planes. Let Gawd sort them out.

Naaah, they won't nuke it in case it upset the neighbours.

Conventional smart munitions delivered mainly by UAV's and B2's, taking out precision targets. They'll want to show off the F22 Raptor, too - pity the F35 isn't ready yet, that looks like fun!

True that, but they're relatively empty targets.

 Except if there were cruise missiles that just happened to be available. Y'know, just sayin'.
