Smaller than that. I don't remember the name of it, I've had it for years though.

I'm wild just like a rock, a stone, a tree
And I'm free, just like the wind the breeze that blows
And I flow, just like a brook, a stream, the rain
And I fly, just like a bird up in the sky
And I'll surely die, just like a flower plucked
And dragged away and thrown away
And then one day it turns to clay
It blows away, it finds a ray, it finds its way
And there it lays until the rain and sun
Then I breathe, just like the wind the breeze that blows
And I grow, just like a baby breastfeeding
And it's beautiful, that's life

And I'm free, just like the wind the breeze that blows

A proper English long bow would pull about 160#. I was prepared to be impressed.

We have an outdoor bow range about five miles from here. It's just a mile or so from Shaw Nature Preserve.Twoflower wrote:Don't be. Although I a pretty decent shot with it.Gawdzilla Sama wrote:A proper English long bow would pull about 160#. I was prepared to be impressed.

Quite likely the sky high unemployment rate among young people contributed to this very case; the guy had tried to get a job and failed before going to graduate school.Atheist-Lite wrote:Money worries set more people off than anything....I'm wondering what will happen once American austerity arrives?

It is something I've been wanting to learn how to do for quite a while, but never had anyone to teach me - I've had people tell me they would, but when push came to shove, it never happened. (Yes, I know I could have paid for classes, but they were rather expensive.) I know 'Zilla will make sure I'm trained properly before I ever aim the thing at a paper target. Besides, it will get me off my butt, out of the house, and I'll be learning new things. Last thing I need to be doing is sitting around all the time.Gawdzilla Sama wrote:She'll have "airplane" loads, the rounds won't make it out of the house. I like guns and can afford to buy them. No different than any other inanimate object.Rum wrote:My point is that you are probably as misguided as the Denver guy.mozg wrote:So have I this year.Rum wrote:Bought 4 guns and several thousand rounds without anyone noticing.
What's your point?
Whether you like the way I live my life or not is immaterial to me.Rum wrote:I don't personally give a flying fuck. However I have a soft spot for your odd country and it has some blind spots that are puzzling.
So you don't know anything about guns, and you base your opinions entirely on what journalists (who also don't know much of anything about guns) tell you about them. Then, you want those of us who actually do have knowledge and practical experience with them to defer to you regarding what should and shouldn't be allowed?maiforpeace wrote: I don't know the particulars of guns, I'm just going by this article:
California gun laws prohibit assault weapon used in Colorado theater shooting
That makes no sense. It's like having a blind person pick font faces for a magazine layout.
This guy's rifle was not an automatic rifle. It was a garden vareity semi-automatic that requires a trigger pull for each round to be fired. And I think banning them would do just as well as the drugs being illegal does at preventing people from getting those. Why does someone need an automatic rifle that can fire more than ten rounds at a time? You don't think banning that particular type of rifle wouldn't have prevented what happened in Colorado?
[qupte]I support the right to bear arms in reasonable situations - for hunting, sports, self defense...all the reasons you mentioned. But do you need an automatic weapon, even a semi automatic for that? [/quote]
You admitted you don't know anything about guns, and now you want to tell everyone else what's reasonable? Nobody has any obligation to justify 'need' to you. If i want an AR-15, the only things that matter are whether or not I pass the background check and if I've got the money to pay for it.
Easier? Timothy McVeigh killed 168 people without a gun. If all someone wants is a really high death toll, explosives and fires work way better than guns do.And sure, if someone really wants to commit a massacre like this, they can do it in other ways and figure out making a bomb, starting a forest fire, whatever. But why make it easier by making this type of unnecessary gun available?
How much do you really know about firearms?Gawdzilla Sama wrote:A Glock is usually a 9mm Semi-automatic, pull the trigger, get one round, repeat as needed.
All Glocks are semi-automatic striker-fired pistols. While 9mm is one of the most poular calibers, Glocks come in seven different calibers from 9mm to .45 ACP and GAP, and the .40 and .45 ACP are also very popular.
It depends on the frame size (which model of Glock it is) but they range from 6+1 (six in the magazine, one in the chamber) to 15+1 without buying magazines that protrude past the bottom of the grip.maiforpeace wrote:With a magazine of 10 bullets, right?
