It’s difficult to disagree because the point isn’t so much to describe what actually happens, but to motivate people. But if we were to limit ourselves to an account of how things actually work, I doubt this is it…

Leadership is everything. Without it you lose the ability to make a difference with your voice. Isn’t that what everyone’s waking up to now? The realization that it all only somewhat worked so long as the leadership agreed it was the best possible way? Then there’s luck, oh my..

Visible opposition from members of the public isn't the sole means of countering authoritarianism but I think it's essential.

Sometimes the ship's crew may disagree with the officers. They may even stand against them, mutiny, and throw the captain overboard. But the investors still own the boat, still decide its course, determine the contents of its manifest, and appoint its next captain and officers - and the ones after that... and the ones after that...

The US with its huge population is getting a little hard to run. Democrats are like Swedes. Every voice has to be heard and then a compromise decision is made. Which fixes only a little. That is how we got Obamacare. There was just enough votes for that. Anything more was thought of as socialsim. So you could never be a winner again! Just quiet workers doing as the corporation tells you.

Yes, I am quite pessimistic about a country wide solution. Only by limiting the powers of the president can we even get blue states to recover from Trump. National level funding will be gone for research in universities.

Russia’s response at the UN was a masterclass in highlighting your adversary’s hypocrisy with mimicry. —they nailed it, sounded like the very best ‘mericans! Thanks Trumpers. :sigh:
