Here's another gun used for lawful self defense, from my home state of Pennsylvania:

He was really committing suicide by the store clerk's readily available handgun. :hehe:

That is impressive. Until I got to the smiley I thought someone else wrote that post.

To the contrary, you have explicitly made the unsubstantiated claim that those who killed themselves with hand guns would prefer drugs rather than shotguns or hanging if hand guns were not available. There's no evidence for your assertion, which is in fact completely arbitrary.

Without a gun, I think I'd choose suicide by cop or jumping in front of a fast moving bus.

Ban cops and buses! :mob:

So how about we prohibit persons under the age of 21 from possessing handguns....oh wait...we DO! :fp:

But how do you know some kid somewhere won't sneak into mommy and daddy's room and snatch his Norinco (gangbangers love Norincos - street cred) and go join up with the bloods?

Re hanging for suicide.

Certainly hanging has been a favourite. It is the second favourite method in the USA today in terms of actual deaths. But the favourite method of attempting suicide is drugs, at 75% of all attempts. If hand guns were removed, then hanging would probably become the no. 1 method in terms of deaths. But drugs would still be no. 1 in terms of attempts. FBM, try not to get confused between attempts and actual deaths. They are two different things. Different by a factor of 100.

To Warren
Who says there is no evidence for my assertion that, without hand guns, drugs would be the favourite. The evidence is in reality. Drugs are no. 1 preferred method now. If guns were not available, then the would-be suicide would most probably go to the current favourite. Drugs.

To Pord

Yes, well spotted. I am still using the same arguments. I am using them on the general principle that if you hit someone often enough with the facts, maybe they will eventually stop rejecting them. Yes, I agree it is probably a forlorn hope. When someone has a myth firmly entrenched in their belief system, you will not remove it with anything less than Madam Guillotine. Superstition reigns supreme.

On your last assertion. Quite right. Drugs are normally unsuccessful. At this rate, Pord, you will be right so often you will agree with me!

For every human action, there is a rationalisation and a reason. Only sometimes do they coincide.

Success is jumping in front of a speeding bus or off a 20+ storey building. Drugs are very often not a successful method.

:bored:

You don't seem to get that the gun debate comes down to a matter of opinion. How very self-righteous and religious of you.

Neither side is right or wrong, you see; you and your opponents only differ on your preferred degree of gun control. Hell, you only differ by one weapon, which makes all your moralizing that much more absurd.

Precisely. Prohibition never works. That's my point.
