Officials are asked about whether there are any legal avenues the city or the state could take in response to the incident, if it is found that the shooting is unjustified.
Mayor Frey responds by saying there still needs to be an investigation, but he says he is unsure how justice would be achieved.
He adds that his perception is the individual who was killed was not trying to "ram anybody".

As one agent tugs on the door handle, another is positioned near the front of the vehicle. It's not clear exactly where the officer is standing based on the videos reviewed immediately by the BBC. That agent opens fire as the maroon SUV attempts to drive off.
Three pops are heard and the vehicle can be seen losing control and crashing into a white car parked on the side of the street.

Details have emerged. Appears to be an instance of trigger-happy ICE agent. They were yelling at the woman to 'move!' and then approached her car. She started moving and the nearest ICE agent fired three shots, two of them into the driver's side window as the car rolled by him. Her child is an orphan now. Of course the Trumpist dog-shooting goon lied about what happened (Daily Beast).

Lot's of people don't dig modern poetry and the direction it's taken but shooting them poets is plain wrong. Part of the dictators playbook is to gather them wordsmith types up and against the wall with them I suppose. If you ever had a signal to leave the country before it rains the shooting of poets is that signal.

In a press conference, Jacob Frey, the mayor of Minneapolis, emphasized that the priority of local law enforcement was to get the victim to the hospital, and then to remove ICE from the scene because they were “making a difficult situation more problematic”.

He also noted that the video footage does not appear to show that a vehicle was being weaponized against the ICE officer.

Frey even issued an emphatic statement to ICE directly: “I do have a message for our community for our city and I do have a message for ICE. To ICE, get the fuck out of Minneapolis. We do not want you here. Your stated reason for being in this city is to create some kind of safety and you are doing exactly the opposite.

“People are being hurt. Families are being ripped apart. Long-term Minneapolis residents that have contributed so greatly to our city, to our culture, to our economy are being terrorized, and now, somebody is dead.”

Continuing to address ICE, Frey said: “That’s on you. It’s also on you to leave. It’s on you to make sure that further damage, further loss of life and injury, is not done.”

The mayor also said that DHS was “trying to spin this as an action of self-defense. Having seen the video myself, I want to tell everybody directly, that is bullshit.”
