This feeling has been most expertly described by Willam F. Buckley: "A conservative is someone who stands athwart history, yelling Stop, at a time when no one is inclined to do so, or to have much patience with those who so urge it." It's a very understandable emotion - but it's also completely unrealistic, and therefore deserves little respect. History does not stop, and it never will.

All these issues like the few I listed above didn't somehow engulf liberals before conservatives by mere coincidence. That would imply that the two mindsets are standing still while culture moves about around them. No, it is because of the efforts of liberals that social progress moves in the direction it does. It is why on an issue like gay rights, when a slight majority in the US now agree with what liberals believe, that they're still not satisfied. Just because New York now allows gay marriage doesn't mean legalization in Alabama is right around the corner. The discovery and gradual spread of enlightenment simply are not enough. It's not enough until the acceptance of that enlightenment engulfs everyone, until it becomes a normal part of the human condition.

All that's reflected in the current GOP's apparent desire to go back to the America of the 1950's...not the one that actually existed, mind you, but the one that existed in Leave it to Beaver and Bonanza (and without the tax rates).

Side note: D'Souza was on Bill Maher's show a week or two ago, and wound up getting utterly humiliated by Maher, who was clearly still sore about D'Souza's role in the PR fiasco that led to Maher being fired from his old show after 9/11. It was practically a Smackdown (TM) on Maher's part. A few times I almost felt sorry for D'Souza, but it sounds like he really had it coming.

I have seen clips. And, I've read reviews from probably 10 different, varied sources. Some were for it and others against it. I researched info on it for hours the other day. A few of the reviews that were anti-Obama, were very detailed. Many of the pro-Obama reviews, pointed out numerous inaccuracies and half-truths. I feel confident with my analysis without having to give a dime to the filmmakers.

These mobs attacked US consulates because they either don't understand the difference between an amateur American filmmaker and official US policy, or else they're just venting towards the closest American presence they can find. So the State Dept. issues a statement trying to clear up the first issue on behalf of the second one. Defusing the tension is a responsibility they have - they've got embassies all over the muslim world to worry about.

I doubt he's running scared. The film is preaching to the choir. Tickets are being sold to people that were already going to vote for Romney. The only person I even know in real life that's seen it is an older, conservative, Christian white woman.

I just read the article in your link. Sounds like more twisting of half truths to me....and not from the Obama side.
