Yes, there is. But that's no reason to be hypocritial.

Locking someone up for many years is a form of torture. It is much more humane to just kill them. All that you are doing is pro-longing the suffering by keeping them alive. There is nothing wrong with sentencing someone to death for serious crimes. They are a lost cause and it is highly illogical to confine them in small spaces for years on end instead of just giving them a quick injection or the guillotine.
I'm from Texas but I disagree with the death penalty. Thou shalt not kill.
Murder. Thou shalt not murder, is the more correct translation. Back in the day, of course, when Exodus was first written, it meant, "thou shalt not murder another of the Chosen People." Killing Canaanites, Midianites, Amalekites, Egyptians, and others for no reason wasn't a problem. Killing folks as penalty of a crime is PRESCRIBED FOR VIOLATING MANY OF THE COMMANDMENTS! Right in the same damn pages of the same Book of Exodus that contain the 10 Commandments, God prescribes death as punishment for commandment breaking. Murder is punished by death - Exodus 21:12, Leviticus 24:17; Other crimes like incest, adultery, bearing false witness on a capital charge, idolatry (worshiping an idol), and other lesser offenses bear the death penalty.

The death penalty is quite Biblical.

Christians don't interpret it that way. You might believe in murder, but I don't. Then again if you see murder as the fulfilment of scripture, that's your belief.

IF murder is bad, God is the leader. EVERYBODY ON THE PLANET got murdered at one point, except Noah's brood. Babies in utero on up.

The trouble is when you start to interpret the book and say it's killing ,not murder (of non chosen ) you actually find out that you disagree with 75% of the 'Law '

What next you get to eat shellfish and bacon ? cream sauces ? . It's a clever plan while you are at it why not reinterpret all the commandments about sucking up to the sky fairy (he's stronger than a Unicorn you know :) ) and replace them with some ethically useful advice from Him above ?

Sorry, man, I'm glad you're here and I hate to give the impression that my statements are based on blind prejudice, but there's been a whole lotta killin' done in the name of Christianity over the centuries. Crusades, Salem witch hunts, trials for heresy, etc etc etc. Seems that history supports the conclusion that a great number of Christians do interpret it that way. And not just in history. Today, too. :dunno:
