Re: The Coronavirus Thread
WHO has sated that the current mortality rate is 3.4%. Although, that will vary depending on where you are in the world. The first world with modern universal healthcare systems will see much lower rates than that. Third world countries like Somalia and the US will see higher rates than that.

Re: The Coronavirus Thread
A friend of mine has a bad pneumonia, although we have no idea where or from whom he might have caught it, he's being tested for the virus today.

The hype continues. My wife has just recovered from a very bad flu. There is plenty around. Just stay at home.

Re: The Coronavirus Thread
I am not swinging anywhere Jim. The crisis in China was caused by the authorities trying to keep it a secret and enforcing an impossible hygiene regime. The virus is as infectious as any other and should have been treated as such but the Chinese went overboard and started the hype. The biggest myth created was that masks protect you which they dont and in fact spread it.
We have 82 cases in this country which is nothing and can be all accounted for. One old guy of 86 who was ill has popped his clogs. The media love it and so do many politicians. China was heading for an economic crisis before the virus appeared now everything can be blamed on the virus.
Anyway I am off to the sauna.

Trump is unable to to visit Atlanta to bully the headline stealing virus in person. Not to mention Twitter. The virus has way more posts than the responses to Trump tweets. Trump us running only 2000 responses and 7000 likes to his tweets.

The latest fad is a poverty social. Every woman must wear calico,
and every man his old clothes. In addition each is fined 25 cents if
he or she does not have a patch on his or her clothing. If these
parties become a regular thing, says an exchange, won't there be
a good chance for newspaper men to shine?

Re: The Coronavirus Thread
--the latest from the CDCCurrent risk assessment:
For most of the American public, who are unlikely to be exposed to this virus at this time, the immediate health risk from COVID-19 is considered low.
People in communities where ongoing community spread with the virus that causes COVID-19 has been reported are at elevated, though still relatively low risk of exposure.
Healthcare workers caring for patients with COVID-19 are at elevated risk of exposure.
Close contacts of persons with COVID-19 also are at elevated risk of exposure.
Travelers returning from affected international locations where community spread is occurring also are at elevated risk of exposure.
