Re: All Things Trump: The Return Of The King
Robert Reich today:
What happened then? The great pendulum of America swung back. The first Gilded Age was followed by what historians call the Progressive Era. Taxes were raised on the wealthy. Antitrust laws were enacted. Regulations stopped corporate malfeasance. Big money was barred from politics. And reformers — starting with Teddy Roosevelt in 1901 and extending through his fifth cousin, FDR, in 1933 — made life better for average working people.
I don’t know exactly how or when the pendulum will swing back this time, but I am certain it will. And the regressive moral squalor of Trump and his lackeys will be swept into the dustbin of history.
My third source of optimism comes from people I meet all over America, including self-described Republicans in so-called “red” states and “red” cities, who detest what’s happening to the nation and to the world under Trump (as well as under Netanyahu and Putin).
There’s a profound decency in the sinews of America. Most Americans are generous and kind.
Opinion polls show the vast majority don’t want ICE agents disappearing their neighbors off the streets and into detention camps. They reject Trump prosecuting his so-called enemies. They think it’s wrong for him to pocket billions from crypto and other pay-to-play schemes. They don’t like him or his lackeys verbally attacking federal judges, or silencing critics.
Over 80 percent believe the minimum wage should be raised, that no full-time worker should be in poverty, that corporations should share their profits with their employees, that working people should get paid family leave, and that child care and elder care should be affordable.
I don’t want to minimize the repugnance of Trump and his sycophants. Like you, I wince when I read the news. Some days I despair.
But there are sources of hope all around us. Find them. Cling to them. Never give up.

Welcome to America! That will $15 000, refundable after Trump leaves office.

Re: All Things Trump: The Return Of The King
During the campaign for the US presidency, somebody may have mentioned that the Trumpist idiocy (yes, a redundancy) of 'mass deportation' would cripple agriculture in the US. Almost any but the smallest farms, ranches, or agribiz operations have been dependent on workers from south of the border for decades, going back at least to the days of the braseros (WWII). It's beginning to dawn on Trump, but of course being the boorish shitwad that he is, he admits it with a racist spin. Another very respectful character in a Trump anecdote. They all insist on calling him 'sir'.
“We can’t let our farmers not have anybody, you know, these are these people, they’re—you can’t replace them very easily.”
He then went on to claim that “people that live in the inner city are not doing that work. They’re just not doing that work, and they’ve tried, we’ve tried, everybody tried , they don’t do it.”
“These people do it naturally, naturally,” he said of the undocumented.
He went on to describe a recent conversation he said he had with a farmer, where he asked, “What happens if they get a bad back?”
“He said, ‘They don’t get a bad back, sir, because if they get a bad back, they die.'”
“I said, ‘That’s interesting, isn’t it?'”

Tero. Just wanted to flag up and remind you that attached images are stored on the server and are very very large files in comparison to text. Storage space and bandwidth carry an inevitable cost, so I'd like to ask you and other members to keep that in mind when considering attaching images to posts. Cheers.Tero wrote:The painting

Um not sure any images are stored on the sever - there is no image storage for this forum afaik. They are always links which are go to the image source.

This is very slow to load due to the size and the time it takes to load FROM the remote server. That's my take.
Slight addendum ....the emoticons are stored on the local server.

Re: All Things Trump: The Return Of The King
It was a new angle to Trumpism. I don't know how to adjust pixels on the phone. I could take that picture and post it on my Threads account and link that here. But nobody would look at it. I've given links to other people's threads accounts and the 5 or 6 people thay might read my post here never open the link. So there is that.Brian Peacock wrote: ↑Wed Aug 06, 2025 5:27 amTero. The image is only 90KB. Not large by any standards.

It all adds up though. The owners/admins of this site could consider disabling the upload function. Other small boards do that and it's not a huge hassle to use something like Imgur or ImgBB.
