In an alternate timeline the Platypuses evolved to full sentience and made documentaries about how weird hairless land mammals are.

As a fan of RPGs, I once came across a game called After the Bomb, which itself was a spinoff from a Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, and in which all manners of animals become intelligent and can acquire humanoid traits... I bet platypi are covered in the Oz book.

Re: Straya!
Interesting platypus factoids:
* the males have poisonous spurs on their hind legs - the venom is extremely painful and can be fatal
* they find their invertebrate prey in muddy water or at night by sensing electric fields
* the females do not have nipples, their milk oozes out of skin glands like thick sweat

German zoological knowledge is the best zoological knowledge...
Even better than Dutch zoological knowledge

This Student Failed Her Assignment Because Her Professor Said "Australia Isn't A Country"
... when Arnold got her grade back on Feb. 1, she was shocked to see her professor had failed her. Why? Because, according to the teacher, "Australia is a continent; not a country."

Re: Straya!
I've known a couple of such student managers back in my day... I mean, back in 9th grade, I went from last of the Class in English to better than the "teacher" in about 3 months.

The professor never apologized for the error, but did acknowledge she had a "misunderstanding about the difference between Australia as a country and a continent."
Still, the professor had another warning for Arnold as she prepares to write her final assignment: "Please make sure the date, the facts, and the information you provide in your report is about Australia the country and not Australia the continent."

Re: Straya!
Maybe in Melbourne Jim and my wife can confirm that. Did not experience it in Queensland. It was pretty basic. Super macho. I actually became quite sick. Drinking gnats piss you get water logged. It is like drinking in England the beer is so fucking weak. 3% is not beer; it is a mouth wash.
