Edit - And a 3" blade is even more concealable than a 6" one. Really, they just don't think what they are doing when they make laws here...they just seem to pull them out their fat asses.

I guess I would be OK, then. I don't want to go anywhere without my Swiss Army knife - I don't need it daily, but definitely 1-2 times every week, minimum. So it lives in my handbag.

Norwegian relatives used to send us similar knives when I was a kid from about age 8 to 12. They usually had a nice leather scabbard and engraved hilts.

The cheaper (read "issued") seaman's dirks were wooden handled. When the handle rotted in the salt air they'd replace it with a corded handle. But the blade was much the same as the puukko. One reason the blades lasted longer was the seamen used them to eat with. Spoon and knife usually, not many forks.

A good folding blade shouldn't be much more difficult to deploy than a fixed blade. I used to carry a knife that was designed to catch on the pocket and open as you pulled it from the clip. I don't anymore, since I don't carry a knife as a weapon and speed isn't a factor for utility purposes. Then there's always switchblades. I've always found it absurd that I am legally permitted to carry a handgun concealed, but if I carry a switchblade I can be brought up on weapons charges.
