I think they should treat the people they carry the same way they do any other dangerous goods. Non-spillable packages with the particular hazards declared on a seperate form, in triplicate. Loaded by freight handlers and required to be removed from the aerodrome in a timely manner after conveyance, or at the request of an airline agent before.

I prefer to drive, in other words. I don't mind flying as much as I did before I worked there, though. I used to be kind of scared of it. Working in a maintenance hangar changed that for me.

Sure you are. You're an object that needs to get from point A to point B and you hire the airline to transport you there. You take up a specific amount of room and your weight causes the consumption of a specific amount of fuel which costs the airline a specific amount of money per mile.You're no different from inanimate freight in that regard, and as living freight, you get substantial benefits, things like a pressurized cabin, light, heat and other amenities THAT YOU PAY FOR.

It's really, really simple: If you want more amenities, pay more.

Yup, you betcha. If regulations allowed it, airlines would be happy to look like seatless subways with poles, straps and strap-hangers so that they could maximize the load and minimize the costs.
