@ Rum Problem is its not radical. Never was, never will be. Radical Islam is Islam that is willing to adapt, orthodox Islam like Orthodox Catholicism has been culturally stagnant for several centuries. Why do you think so many people left the fucking place? I know the history pretty well, but there is often a factor which is overlooked in my view when people talk about radical Islam (that's the commonly used phrase even if it isn't very descriptive after all) and that is that they have often filled a vacuum left by political elites and the very rich who have exploited their counties and buggered off with the loot. Some infrastructure service and many charities are run by these Islamists. The cost is of course mind control..or at least behaviour control, but often they serve a practical function in desperately poor communities. Unless the 'west' offers an alternative that is not just eradication of these movements, the vacuum will remain there to be filled.

The radical islam emergedf only in the 80s, when the taliban emerged, as militias based on people coming from salafi madrasas in Pakistan.

I've always believed that the taliban were a poison apple given by the pakis to their hated Northern neighbors... they didn't know what to do with the morons coming out of the Saudi funded schools, so they sent them against the heathens the other side of Khyber pass, with more success than could be expected.
