Seems to me that the Republicans are out-bidding themselves as to how unelectable they can get!

Bush won twice on the strength of turnout from the religious right.

Nonsense. The religious loons turn out for any Republican because they have nowhere else to go. The loon vote isn't big enough by itself to elect a president, but is a big enough bloc that the Republicans have made a devil's bargain to get it. But after each election the loons are thrown away like yesterday's used condom.

The Shrub presidency was a stage-managed affair from start to finish, run by the party elite who only do that for their Chosen One. That's Romney, not Santorum.
