If we were after oil, wouldn't we prop up Qadafi and make him reward us by selling us low priced oil?

That's a movie. You won't find American weapons in north Africa. You'll find lots of AK-47's though, and they aren't made in the US, and the vast majority of them are sold by Russians and Chinese.

Which weapons? You're suggesting the the US - the US - that hates Qadafi with a passion and fired cruise missiles at his house to try to kill him - we are the one's that armed him?

We sold him what? His divisions of T-72 tanks? The AK-47s his military uses? His MiG aircraft? His Dussault Mirage aircraft? His Sukhoi? Or was it the Russian surface to air missiles we sold him? His ships purchased from European and Russian sources?

I guess the US bought the weapons from Russia, China and France, and then resold them to Libya. Or, we manufactured T-72 take look-a-likes and then sold them to Libya so it would look like the Russians sold them to Libya....

It's always the US. Somehow, someway, it's always the US.

Fucking disgusting, I'm lost for words.
Yup. Pretty typical of ignorant Arab Muslims, but not a justification for levying war on a sovereign nation.

Gadaffi is and always has been a nut bar, of course the world is going to intervene to take out a whack job loose cannon with oil reserves help the people. It's common sense. Personally as long as they aren't moving troops in en masse I don't care atm, as long as its trying to prevent civilian casualties go for it.

I just wonder what makes Libya so different from Somalia or Zimbabwe atm.

It did to almost every left-leaning or liberal person five years ago, too. Remember - back then we needed an "imminent threat" to the US in order to justify an attack, and nothing less would do. Where there is no imminent threat, you have to use measures short of military force. A preemptive war was illegal and a war crime back then. Here, we have nothing even remotely hinting at a threat from Libya, and the humanitarian crisis had not yet occurred and we moved in to PREEMPT it.

I remember hearing the arguments "but, there are humanitarian crises and dictators killing their people all over the world - why pick Iraq?" That argument was even used by those opposing the UN effort to free Kuwait of the Iraqi invasion in the early 90s. It was an insufficient reason to go in, that we were trying to help the Kuwaiti people who were being tortured and killed by Hussein. Why not Darfur, Sudan? Why not one of 10 or so other countries?
