I fully support making him a saint.
I think he should be made the patron saint of pedophiles. They could pray to him for protection, just as he protected them when he was alive.

It was interesting seeing how the BBC TV news reports on this were completely uncritical about the whole story.

Yeh, I was struck by that as well.Pappa wrote:It was interesting seeing how the BBC TV news reports on this were completely uncritical about the whole story.
There seems to be a general rule that religion is treated with no scepticism at all. The general tone on that report was actually very like what they use for the British royal family. A sort of unquestioning respect.
I blame Blaire. He set the tone for all religion getting WAY too much respect in this country.

The World Atheist Council have already declared Pope JP II as a Saint. "Saint John Paul II - The Paedophile".mistermack wrote:I fully support making him a saint.

- the first miracle was not being arrested as a Paedophile.
- the second miracle was drinking his own body weight in kiddie cum (that's what the secret telephone box in Catholic Churches is for.......proof? there is no telephone inside! FACT).
FACT.
I am Leader of all The Atheists in the world - FACT.

The CBC in canaduh was the same way, reporting it as if it "may have actually been a miracle because no one definitively proved it was NOT!" with a straight fucking face. Like it was in some sense "news".mistermack wrote:Yeh, I was struck by that as well.Pappa wrote:It was interesting seeing how the BBC TV news reports on this were completely uncritical about the whole story.

Re: Pope paves way to beatification of John Paul II
I don't even believe that this nun was ever ill.
The Catholic church has long experience in making saints, which required a steady supply of "miracles".
Pope John Paul was ill with parkinsons since 1992. He was elderly and it was perfectly clear that he would die in the not-too-far future.
It was also clear there would be moves to make him a saint.
What a great career-move for a nun, to fake parkinsons disease, and report a miraculous cure after his death.
To be involved in making him a saint is a fabulous honour for a common nun. She will be feted wherever she goes, and she knew all that perfectly well, long before she "got ill". She probably also has convinced herself she is doing god's will.
She might have even nearly convinced herself that she WAS ill.
Whichever, it's something that's been going on in the Catholic church for a couple of thousand years. Faking miracles, faking cures, faking relics, faking shrouds.
That's why it's no surprise that it's a nun that has been "miraculously" cured.

Tony Blair debated Christopher Hitchins in your precious 'Canada' an the subject 'is religion a force for good'. They decided by audience vote before and after who won the debate.sandinista wrote:The CBC in canaduh was the same way, reporting it as if it "may have actually been a miracle because no one definitively proved it was NOT!" with a straight fucking face. Guess who won.
It isn't 'Tony Blair'. It's thousands of stupid people respecting him (and those like him)
