Understood. A fraction of that British reserve survived in the culture of the American Deep South, y'know. The Civil War, for example, was referred to (while it was still going on, mind you) as 'that recent unpleasantness'.

Post by Lozzer » Wed Dec 22, 2010 11:38 am

The people are so frightened that they've began a plethora of incest to appease the magic earth god under the mountains.

Country-folk deserve unusual Seismic activity ;ob;

3.6??? :yawn: That wasn't an earthquake, that was someone's stomach rumbling.

Meh. The last one I've lived through that concerned me was Northridge, which was... err.. slightly dramatic. :?

My sister experienced the 1989 Loma Prieta earthquake ( http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/1989_Loma_ ... earthquake ), and that made her decide to move to Florida. You know, that place with all those hurricanes...

She says she would rather have a huge storm any day than even once more feel the earth move under her feet. To each their own, I guess. :dunno:

Give things away and take things that are free." - Maureen J

I was on the phone with my dad (who lives in Northern CA, though I did not at the time) while that one happened. He was watching the World Series and watched (and felt) the whole thing unfold.

Yes, I recall that. The midlands had 'after shocks'. Woke me up. Very strange feeling :shock:

One of my friends over here was living in LA at the time. He talks about it sometimes, but not enough to give me a real feel for what it was like. You were in LA for that one? What was it like where you were? :pop:

Well, Torrance is a bit away from Northridge, but it shook enough to wake me up, and a power transformer outside my bedroom window exploded (that was the scariest part), things fell over and broke in my house, and power was out most of the day. It was a pain without power because I had no idea what was going on from the news or things...
