Cars coming the other way might not stop in time. It's a slick road remember? There was nothing dangerous about what the driver did except to anyone dumb enough to be hiding behind the snowman.mistermack wrote:To say that this was a safer option is daft.
Cars coming the other way would have to wait, till it was safe to pass it, not swerve into the path of an oncoming bus. It's not like it was invisible.
Or they could gently push it over with their car, if they felt like it.
Or a bus coming the other way could push it over.
What he did was the dangerous option.

What I've found with a few discussions I've had lately is this self-satisfaction that people express with their proffessed open mindedness. In realty it ammounts to wilful ignorance and intellectual cowardice as they are choosing to not form any sort of opinion on a particular topic. Basically "I don't know and I'm not going to look at any evidence because I'm quite happy on this fence."

They wouldn't be hiding behind the snowman. They would have been IN FRONT OF the snowman. How can you expect somone to know that a bus would swerve into the opposite lane to run over a snowman?Robert_S wrote:Cars coming the other way might not stop in time. It's a slick road remember? mistermack your case is about as solid as a fart in a winter breeze.
Robert, there is nothing that points out what the driver did was 'safer'
And, in either case, it's not his job or his duty to do so. He broke the law.
End of game.

On a serious note, I wouldn't do it. What if someone with a nastier prank in mind put some heavy materials on the road, then built a snowman around it. Make a big mess of your car, and cause damage even to a bus...

Cowardly cringingly following the letter of the law... maybe if he didn't do what he did, someone would have gotten hurt or killed. But at least they wouldn't be able to blame the bus driver, except the bus driver himself who would eventually commit suicide after years of never being able to get through the night without wondering what would have happened if he just said "fuckit" and ran over that damn snowman. The Mad Hatter wrote:mistermack your case is about as solid as a fart in a winter breeze.

Maybe if he'd lost control of his bus he and everybody else might have died.
'Maybe' doesn't cut it. The road rules are there for a reason.

So the penalty for being a kid and hiding behind a snowman is death? Seems a tad harsh. I think even Sharia law might balk at that one.Robert_S wrote:Cars coming the other way might not stop in time. Ok, I guess that seemed a bit harsh. Actually that's a student housing area without not a family neighborhood. It's very very unlikely than anyone under 18 would be there.GreyICE wrote:So the penalty for being a kid and hiding behind a snowman is death? Seems a tad harsh. I heard that during the miner's strike, a police van was deliberately driven into a snowman which the picketing miners had built.
The miners had built the snowman around a concrete bollard...

New Law: It is forbidden to build a snowman in a public street except during a labor dispute.ED209 wrote:I heard that during the miner's strike, a police van was deliberately driven into a snowman which the picketing miners had built.
