Hegseth and Trump have burned through a lot of munitions in the idiotic war on Iran, but the US can apparently afford to give nearly $3 billion worth of bombs and assorted other weapons to Israel so they can continue rubbing out Palestinians.
Though described as a sale, the transaction is financed through a mechanism known as Foreign Military Financing, in which the United States provides the money that Israel uses to buy the weapons.

Middle East is the ingrowing toenail of the world. You can make it worse but no matter how you try it ain't every gonna get better. And watch what happens to any who try. If it wasn't for the oil it'd be long forgotten like the Congo and you lot wouldn't even be discussing it. It's been ongoing since the Bronze Age and probably before. No cure for that sor of perpetual mess. Amunitions - keep throwing them in, they'll take them all and still come out fighting...cos that's what they do. And they've no intention of stopping.

New Google Maps images reveal massive scale of devastation in Gaza
...
“The estimate of the total amount of rubble in Gaza is 61m tonnes. It is approximately 20 times the amount of rubble generated in all wars across the world over the last 18 years,” Jaco Cilliers, the UN Development Programme’s special representative in Palestine told the Guardian last month.

Hamas made them do it. The IDF has no agency of its own.

"Most Israeli Jews now see the world the way Netanyahu has long seen it. That is Netanyahu’s great victory. But it is matched by his great loss: Much of the world now sees Israel the way Gazans see it. In this, it is not only Netanyahu who has achieved much of what he sought but also Yahya Sinwar, the Hamas leader who planned Oct. 7 and was killed in 2024. Their successes have been, for their people, catastrophic."

"Before Oct. 7, Netanyahu had spent years propping up Hamas using Qatari money. This was widely understood as a strategy to keep Palestinians divided and thwart international pressure on Israel to permit a Palestinian state."
