well, frum seems to get the idea, what the country needs is for him to get poured into a concrete casket.

well, the US may need to reindustrialize some, but let's face it, they'll never be really competitive, so it needs to be mostly for the home market, and I'm not sure they can really wean off reasonably cheap imports, because home manufactured stuff just is more expensive, even if it's patriotic.

The US has/is reindustrialising - around finance services, venture capital, internet services, data mining, hoarding and processing, & AI. If an administration could somehow control international access to those resources it would be truly unstoppable - particularly given its inherent global military superiority.

I know, I shouldn't be giving them ideas!

that's not industry, industry is manufacturing, what you mention is services... not at all the same beast, since financial services don't produce consumer goods.
and I'm not sure about what you mean about an administration controlling access to that, I mean, if it were doable, it would mean the death of the world wide web, at least the public part.

Washington vs. Beijing
The biggest challenge of all is Trump’s standoff with China. Because Beijing retaliated with tariffs of its own, it got no relief when Trump suspended tariffs for everyone else. Thanks to the triple-digit levies, much trade has come to a standstill. Companies that depend on China are careening toward bankruptcy, my colleague Daisuke Wakabayashi reports.

After watching stock markets and companies react badly to the tariffs, Trump officials would clearly like an amicable solution. But they’re reluctant to wind down tariffs without any concessions from Beijing.

China’s position seems to be that this battle makes no sense and that giving way would only invite future blackmail. U.S. tariffs hurt Chinese exporters, but Beijing is also focused on winning a symbolic battle — and expanding its trade relationships with other countries around the world. So for now, the standoff continues, while losses pile up for companies that depend on trade.

but it is nevertheless special. Because why would it hang in Trump's office? It does fail to mention tariffs.

A bit nitpicky. 'Industry' can apply to any sector of the economy. Reindustrialisation can apply to a refocusing of the overall economy as well as the recreation of economies past. Financial services and venture capital have a direct impact on manufacturing. Financial services provide financial products and services. 'Production' can also apply to that as well as waldos and wigets.

The public part of the www is already in ill-health, with most of it controlled by conglomerates run by unelected COEs and boards. The Trump administration has very publicly lifted its nightie for the tech barons. If I remember rightly, around 60+ nations currently run their national IT intra on AWS. If Bezos decided to make that difficult for example, it could have a real impact on millions of people's everyday lives. Similarly if PayPal or Starlink was withdrawn from particular regions or countries. I think we sometimes forget how tenuous our utter dependency on tech actually is.

And the whole thing rests on this checklist:

Lived with someone = 2 pts
Get to 8, and you’re an “alien enemy.”

Trump advisor Stephen Miller has sued Chief Supreme Court Justice John Roberts to try to gain control of SCOTUS. No, I'm not joking. Legal Karen wants to speak to the manager of Rule of Law.

Trump saved 20 thousand kids from being killed by fentanyl!
Bondi:

President, your first 100 days has far exceeded that of any other presidency in this country. Ever. Ever. . . .

I was at DEA yesterday, they said to me, you, Donald Trump, have taken handcuff off DEA agents and since you have been in office, President Trump, your DOJ agencies have seized more than 22 million fentanyl pills, 3,400 kilos of fentanyl, which saved, are you ready, media, 258 million lives. . . .Young kids. Fentanyl, 20,000 lives saved because of you right there.
Noem:

Mr. President, you are 100% correct. “The border is 99.99% safe, under control. You have completely reversed the entire situation.
comment below:
We have seen this in prior Trump cabinet meetings. And commentators have made statements about Trump’s cabinet meetings being similar to something seen in other regimes such as that of Kim Jun Un or Vladimir Putin.

Did Trump kill Sesame Street? No.
Federal funding for public media flows through the congressionally chartered Corporation for Public Broadcasting. Congress allocated $535 million for the CPB for the current fiscal year — an amount affirmed in a recent stop-gap bill passed by the Republican-controlled U.S. House and Senate.

According to the Corporation for Public Broadcasting, Congress has fully funded it through Sept 30, 2027.
