Actually, some of the key people in Israeli bomb development did first work on classified nuclear projects in the U.S. In that sense, the U.S. "helped" because some of the expertise came from here. However, that was just the result of the U.S. not restricting emigration, not because of any purposeful aid.

And just where did your "facts" come from?
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nuclear_weapons_and_Israel

Before you scoff at wiki, look at the references. The involvement of the French is long since known - the USA wouldn't help the French, so the French went into partnership with the Israelis [/obviously simplified] The level of involvement of the British caused a considerable scandal when it came to light a few years ago, involving as it did a Norwegian intermediary as a front.

If you know anything about the history of Israel, then you aught to know full well that the US wouldn't even sell the most mundane conventional weapons systems to Israel at first. It wasn't until the 1973 Yom Kippur war that the Israelis were armed mostly with US weapons. Now, if the US would sell the Israelis even a single surplus WW II fighter at first (planes that they were practically giving away to other countries), what are the chances that it would bring them into the nuclear club?

So then, where's the evidence for deep US involvement in Israeli nuclear weapons? Or that the Israeli missiles are really US missiles, or Israeli missiles that are hugely dependent on highly sensitive US technology? The evidence Gawd, the evidence.
Seems to me, your knowledge of history is limited to pre-1973.

The Israelis had nuclear weapons prior to 1973, without any meaningful US support. Actually, there's no evidence that the US has been directly involved big-time in any developments since. The (presumably) nuclear-capable Israeli submarines are German-built, and the Jericho ballistic missiles are based more on French and indigenous technologies than that of the US. You do know that Israel is a major exporter of military technical know-how? ;)

US technologies are certainly being used in some places, but that is the way of the world now with many different things.

I go by evidence, not by assertions that fit a personal world-view.

Because they (like most other modern attack subs) are capable of launching cruise missiles. They also have extra-large 650 mm torpedo tubes as well as the older 533 mm tubes, and even the smaller tubes are good for launching missiles.

Cruise missiles launched from underwater require more sophisticated technology than the land or air launched versions. Not sure whether Israel would take it that far...

The U.S. has launched plenty of cruise missiles recently and none of them have been nuclear. Granted cruise missiles might make more sense as a deterrent for a regional power like Israel, as opposed to ICBMs for global powers.

The U.S. has (or had) plenty of nuclear-armed cruise missiles, and not just today or yesterday either. Remember the commotion at Greenham Common in the early 1980's? It has just never used them.

Agreed though that they make more sense for the likes of Israel, for whom a proper SSBN (Nuclear-powered ballistic missile submarine) is probably not a realistic option.

The smart money is that they have done so. It's more sophisticated, but it's ... er ... not rocket science. :hehe:
