And Morton's demon is so cunning, I do believe you don't even know that it's there. I'm sure it will help you worm out of this silly contradiction. (in your own head).

Purely anecdotal, but my observations have me thinking that children who have parents who smoke are more likely to smoke.
I have a zero tolerance policy for tobacco on my private property. I am very assertive about that. My son has been educated by me regarding tobacco. He has friends who smoke and those friends have parents who smoke. My son doesn't smoke.

I think there are lots of studies that back that up, Gallstones, so not just anecdotal (though I can't be bothered searching for them, I'll have a ciggy instead...).Gallstones wrote:Purely anecdotal, but my observations have me thinking that children who have parents who smoke are more likely to smoke.
More anecdotes: my dad smoked, but not mum, and two of us three brothers smoked. My wife and I both smoke, daughter does but son doesn't.

I can't find the damn clip but I think it was in 'Teachers' when a male teacher had a cigarette pack with 'Smoking causes erectile dysfunction' and the female teacher had 'Smoking when pregnant harms your baby' (or something) and they swapped packets..

Men! They're all beasts!
Yeah. But isn't it wonderful?

This could be rather a productive meme
Outside the ordered universe is that amorphous blight of nethermost confusion which blasphemes and bubbles at the center of all infinity—the boundless daemon sultan Azathoth, whose name no lips dare speak aloud, and who gnaws hungrily in inconceivable, unlighted chambers beyond time and space amidst the muffled, maddening beating of vile drums and the thin monotonous whine of accursed flutes.

This bit has always pretty much summed it up for me:

so close to annihilation.

As purely anecdotal, my Dad whom I regard very highly smoked.Gallstones wrote:Purely anecdotal, but my observations have me thinking that children who have parents who smoke are more likely to smoke.

I never did. And it wasn't his death (of causes unrelated to smoking) that deterred me from it.
At any rate, the cost would likely have made me stop at some point.
