Two factors I'd identify are the lack of, or difficulty in, providing proper discipline in schools, and the overwhelming bureaucratic burden on teachers
When it comes to discipline only a limited amount should be needed to control children, its not a schools job to teach a children that kicking the shit out of another child is a bad thing thats parents role. If a school needs to do more than give a kid lines or detention for not doing their homework that the school isnt at fault the pupil/parents are
I'm not talking about physical discipline, but any punishment beyond detention (and even that now can't be immediate, but has to be with 3 days notice) requires an inordinate amount of paperwork and meetings with superiors & parents.
For all practical purposes, an individual teacher has no resources to deal with a constantly disruptive pupil, not even refusing to have them in the class.

It's one of several reasons why I took early retirement a couple of years ago.

It seems strange to me that the education service has always been such an expensive excercise in poor performance - 99% of it is not about sending people to Mars. Just delivering information, most of which does not change from year to year..........you would have thought that after decades (plus) of trying that the Councils / Schools would have grasped at least the basics.

Must try harder...........

But to be fair, a lot of stuff the UK breeds nowadays isn't high enough on the evolutionary scale to cope with education above writing own name, in Crayon - with an X. The solution for those is training ("you put your trousers on this way up") and deploy them to combat in Afghanistan

Point is the teacher shouldn't have to (at least alone anyway), basically if a pupil is this bad already and the parent(s) arent considering this their no.1 priority to sort out that kid is going to be going to jail pretty soon anyway

Did the ship sink because the wheels fell off, or was that a different metaphor?

Well, more useful than vehicular mechanics because when the wheels fall off, the tools and spare parts to repair won't be available anymore

Standardised parts may become quite rare in the aftermath. It may be sometime before the re-introduction of complex technology! However some kind of spear throwing technology is gonna crop up, with so much material ready at hand in the ruins of the collapsed civilization. A three thousand year bridge to the past - a one way jump back. :hehe:
