You cannot deny the Potter series has done just that, even if only for 6 books (or what ever it is).

They suck? Even for kids. I remember being bowled over by Redwall, but Harry Potter just made me giggle, and later sigh in annoyance.Gawdzilla wrote:What don't you like about her CHILDREN'S BOOKS?FrigidSymphony wrote:She doesn't deserve it anyway. Shoddy writer. Erect a statue to Bukowski instead.

I'm all for getting kids into books, too, FS, and even fantasy books accomplish that. But I would try to keep my kids (if I had any) from getting permanently hooked on escapism, magical thinking, etc. Or to put it another way, I'd try to substitute curiosity for fantasy as they matured.

Very true. J.K. doesn't have the responsibility of raising any kids but her own. She can help us raise ours, but without guidance from us the kids are screwed by all the crap.FBM wrote:I'm all for getting kids into books, too, FS, and even fantasy books accomplish that. Well they believe in giant sky fairies and magic tricks.tattuchu wrote:What is the criteria by which these awards are, um, awarded? I'm not sure Rowling deserves it because, while I enjoy them immensely, I wouldn't exactly call the Harry Potter series great literature. As for the books "promoting sorcery," that's a absolute bullshit reason not to award her the, um, award. Do these fucktards actually believe witchcraft and sorcery are real?! Are we still living in the fucking Dark Ages?!
