Sorry, no, but the current question's not so shabby, either: "Should people be prosecuted for assisted suicide?"

Yes: 22%
No: 78%
Votes: 1,510 (I like the direction here, too...)

I can think of one or two 'assists' I would be happy to contribute...

We have to change that! Assisted suicide is nothing more than government sanctioned murder!

Oh I have no problem with legalized suicide. It's the assisted part that worries me and how such a process would be approved that worry me. When I want to go I'll pull the trigger or inject myself of my own power.

Same here, but we have to think of those who don't have enough body control to do themselves in, which is probably why they want to do themselves in. Like the Ozzie guy recently who was paralyzed from the neck down and the best he could do was win the right to starve himself to death. I'd like to be able to give the nod to my doc to give the injection if that day ever comes.

Hmmm, a good point. I guess if it were a requirement that one was unable to end one's own life first before suicide could be assisted... But then wouldn't that mean that if you ever slipped into a comma, some doctor might then have the power to do you in? I just foresee marriages gone bad (or other such situations) using "assisted suicide" as a means of legalized murder. The devil's in the details I guess, which is why polarizing people on this issue in such a general way scares me.

Frankly, I think we haf'ta think wider than that... my mom was a life-long advocate, but after Kevorkian always indicated a fairly strong preference to have someone else actually do it. She died 2+ years ago at 93 and most of her last decade she was blind - after being a very enthusiastic reader - with very restricted mobility. While if legal she physically could have pulled the trigger, but just didn't want it (theoretically). To each their own...
