Live in jungle, play happy monkeys?

Is this how all civilizations collapse? Folks preferring the 'simple' way of life to rocket science and voting with their monkey feet? or is just Scotland?

The city dwellers who want a more tribal way of living
By Angie Brown
BBC Scotland News

Stefanie Kaiser has been been living in Edinburgh for nine years - but says she is longing to be part of a community.

The 41-year-old communications manager grew up in a small town in Austria.

"I'm from somewhere that everyone knows each other, and they accept me for who I am.

"Having someone on the spot who is rooting for you, who will help you is a big deal.

"A place where you don't have to make appointments to meet people because your friends are there in your community, gardening with you, chatting with you in shared indoor and outdoor space is what I want.

"I want to feel part of a community, that is what would give me happiness."

(continued, hell being other people on a smaller scale?)

No. On the contrary, there is not a single instance in all history we know of how any civilization collapsed, and Stefanie Kaiser is not evidence that it will happen in the case of Scotland or anywhere else.

Austrians coming to your country and telling you how to emphasize community. We have made bad experiences with that

That lady is suffering from acute nostalgia... she's saying crap and not even noticing it.
Small community where everybody knows everybody else may be comfortable, possibly even happiness favorable to those who unthinkingly conform to all the standards... try and be different, and see how your happiness will fare.

What invariably happens is that small communities where everybody knows everybody with ambitions to exist in isolation of the societies at large in which they were spawned have a much shorter life span than their hosts.

Hippie communes have disappeared decades ago. Few of them lasted for more than a handful of years.

Others have expired in spectacular fashion. See Waco, Jonestown, Charles Manson's group among others.

Communities run by gurus tend to persist a little longer than the rest, but they too dissolve eventually, usually because of the gurus' insistence to fuck every woman, girl and sometimes boy in their community they take a fancy to.

Libertarian communities fare no better. They tend to expire in an orgy of contractual disagreements and outright fraud, resulting in the parties to disputes running off to seek redress of their grievances in the courts of big government, which in itself is not just predictable but also hugely ironic.
