We really need to start challenging this view that GDP and +/- growth %s represent something meaningful or significant in the lives of ordinary people.

It is what capitalists do. Oh I agree and I think employment and education levels are far more indicative of a countries progress along with of course poverty levels but those are of little importance to manufactures and investors.

I agree. I'd add child poverty and the general well-being or happiness of people onto that too. Societies that make people miserable are dysfunctional imo.
