Wish people would stop using the term liberal. It means so many different things depending on what country you live in.

What other meanings does it have aside from being socially and economically liberal? I know in the US that the "left wing" gets called liberal, but that's just short hand for Democrats, AFAIK. But as you know, Democrats haven't been economically left wing for a long time. So the Dems are closer to ideological liberalism than they are to strong social democracy (i.e. the real left). The Liberal Party here in Australia is unfortunately named, as it contains both liberals and traditional conservatives. But the liberals in the party are more or less the same as the Democrats in the US, i.e. more or less ideological liberals.

"Democrats haven't been economically left wing for a long time."

They collect more taxes and have more "social" programs, vs road building and other necessary infrastructure. Plus "regulation." Obamacare attempted to regulate healthcare. Such as requiring to insure actual sick people. Socialism!

They're more left wing than the Republican Party, but that's not saying much..

What policies are economically left wing?

If not now, when were the Democrats "economically left wing?" When was that "long time ago?"

Indeed, or at least provide a quick blurb as to which meaning is intended. Here in the US, the left and liberal are often conflated, where you have conservatives calling anything left wing "liberal." Libertarians, who are quite liberal socially and economically, are often lumped in with conservatives, and left wing socialists like Bernie Sanders are often referred to a "liberals" when they are anything but that.

Surprise! Evangelicals and Republicans are dicks.

The group least likely to think the U.S. has a responsibility to accept refugees? Evangelicals.

Of course he's a Republican.

Candidate criticized for saying displaced Puerto Ricans shouldn't be able to vote in Florida
https://amp.cnn.com/cnn/2018/05/22/poli ... index.html
(CNN) A Republican congressional candidate is facing a backlash after saying that Puerto Ricans who moved to Florida in the wake of Hurricane Maria last year should not be able to register to vote in the state.

In a video uploaded to YouTube by the campaign of a Republican rival, John Ward -- a candidate in the GOP primary for Florida's 6th Congressional District -- is asked by a voter how he would respond to Puerto Ricans who have "moved either temporarily or permanently to Florida" when "they say that they need more help and that the aid to Puerto Rico is not enough."

Ward replied by saying, "First of all, I don't think they should be allowed to register to vote. It's not lost on me that, I think, the Democrat party's really hoping that they can change the voting registers in a lot of counties and districts, and I don't think they should be allowed to do that."

The candidate went on to say that "we should be looking to put the Puerto Ricans back in their homes. The idea that they can come to the mainland United States, I don't necessarily have a problem with that, but I think we should be thinking about it in terms of getting them back home and providing the capital and resources to rebuild Puerto Rico, which is, I honestly think, is where they belong."
