Hitler was not a realistic direct threat to the US at any time, not having the ability or troops to invade. If the President of Sierra Leon declares war on the US, the US is not compelled to do anything at all because he does not have the present ability to invade and take over the US.mistermack wrote:Shows your pathetic grasp of history.Seth wrote: Do you really think we would have gone to war on the side of the Axis? The US didn't come to anybody's rescue. Japan attacked Pearl Harbour, and Hitler declared war on the US.
Americans were then FORCED to stop hiding behind the skirts of Brittania, and actually do some fighting themselves. They didn't join the war. It joined them.
Hitler was a threat to the UK and the rest of Europe, not the US. We could have stayed out of it but we chose not to do so. Indeed we were supplying the UK with everything from soup to nuts, including private firearms donated to the UK for use by the Home Guard by American citizens who volunteered to send those arms, which we certainly did not need to do, long before we sent troops when it appeared that the UK was about to flounder and go under.
As for Japan, yes, they attacked Pearl Harbor, but again we were under no compulsion to go to war against them. We did so because we saw that Axis domination would be a bad thing and that you were incapable of turning back the threat. Japan had no realistic chance of succeeding in invading and taking over the US, ever. At worst they would have been a pain in our ass if they took control of Hawaii.
