He was programmed under the MK Ultra project to be a suicide 'bomber' (he wasn't). He was programmed to be a patsy (he wasn't). I was shocked when I learned about this (I wasn't). I think it's perfectly credible (it isn't) that he made a shot with a wwII Italian rifle (not not notorious for their shiteness) with a scope that wasn't even sighted in (it was) and then proceeded to leave it in the Texas schoolbook lavitory.

Nobody's required to carry ID here either. But presenting ID is often a condition of writing a check or using a credit card at a store so if you don't have one you can pay cash or go somewhere else. Also, in addition to alcohol, you have to show ID to buy cigarettes if you appear to be underage. You also generally have to show ID at hotels and motels when you register. I believe this is true in Europe as well.Xamonas Chegwé wrote:Ah. Well, in our socialist, fascist dictatorship, nobody is required to carry ID, or to produce it on request. You only need ID to buy alcohol if, in the onion of the vendor, you look under 25.Seth wrote:I know you were taking a piss, I just wanted to point out the fault to the credulous lurkers and you gave me a fine opportunity to impart some important wisdom.Xamonas Chegwé wrote:Just goes to show that you took me seriously when I was taking the piss. Here's another little tidbit: In the US you can get a "passport card" from the government that can be used to go in and out of Mexico and Canada, but not for flying or coming back from other places (you need a real passport for that). Whenever the matter of presenting ID comes up I present my passport card, and when the clerk or bank teller or whatnot is surprised and confused by it I ask them what's NOT on the passport card that is on your driver's license. It usually takes a while and I often have to prompt them, but the answer is "your home address." I make it a particular point to tell ladies why they should get a passport card and never, ever show their driver's license to anyone but a cop during a traffic stop or to a judge in traffic court. For absolutely everything else ID-wise, the passport card (or an actual passport) is completely legal and acceptable ID that cannot be refused. So when some cute girl shows her passport card to the geek behind the convenience store counter rather than her driver's license, he can't memorize her home address and go stalk her.
Besides, if you do it right and cover the top of the card where it says "Passport Card" with your thumb when flashing it, many people will think it's a federal government employee ID, for what it's worth.
The point however is that if and when you do need to show ID, it's better to show one that doesn't have your home address on it.

Depends on the particular state, but that is becoming more and more commonplace because servers can be arrested and bar owners can lose their licenses for serving underage people and there is this stupid notion that it's discriminatory and not "fair" to only card young-looking people, so everybody gets carded.FBM wrote:Last I heard, they're required by law to ID you regardless of how old you appear.

Checks? You mean Cheques, I suppose. I remember them. They're what people used in the olden times, before chip-n-PIN debit cards.
You're right that there are times when you need ID. But not nearly as many as in the USA. I need to show a passport if I stay in an hotel in a foreign country but not in the UK. These days they just swipe your credit/debit card so they know they will be paid if you do a runner.
And, if you are young looking and want to buy alcohol, you can apply for a Proof-of-Age card - no address on that.

I wasn't suggesting that avoiding confrontation is cowardice, I was saying that walking around in a fog oblivious to the tactical situation around you is a pretty damned stupid thing to do. I ALWAYS try to avoid a confrontation, and so far I've been pretty successful in doing so, even as a cop. What I am saying is that one should not walk into, or be overtaken by a confrontation unwittingly. Be aware of what's going on around you so as to avoid the confrontation and only use force when there is no other reasonable choice.Trinity wrote:Unfortunately that doesn't always work. My son, who's pretty street=wise and has been attacked a few times, lives in a town where there is a gang with mafioso aspirations. You DO NOT make eye contact with them; they'll just knife or shoot you. Sometimes, you just have to know what's best for your survival, doesn't mean you're a coward.Seth wrote:Nah, just situational awareness and good tactical movement would do the job. Just making eye contact with the thug as he approaches would probably do it.Xamonas Chegwé wrote:Yep. Should have set up a perimeter, with razor-wire and watchtowers - perhaps a few snipers and loads of attack-raptors. No punk would have got close then.Seth wrote:Maybe. Most of the "knockout" participants don't rob the victim, they just knock him (or her) out and leave. But if that had happened it wouldn't be the victim's fault or problem, he's the victim.Horwood Beer-Master wrote:So if that taser had worked, Marvell Weaver could have now been walking around with a gun...
The victim's mistake was tactical. He should have exercised better situational awareness and not allowed the assailant to get that close to him in the first place.
Only mindless idiots walk around in an oblivious fog in public.

We had something similar in our supermarkets. Some people took offence that they were asked if they needed help packing their goods because they looked old. The supermarket's response - ask everyone if they want help packing. I am tempted to say yes and stand there watching somebody fill my bags and carry them to the car for me - not cos I need it, just cos I'm idle! But I don't - it's not the fault of the person behind the till, they are just doing their job. It is a bit stupid though. A better solution would be for help to be offered if the customer appeared to be struggling - irrespective of age or other consideration. You know, common sense.Seth wrote:Depends on the particular state, but that is becoming more and more commonplace because servers can be arrested and bar owners can lose their licenses for serving underage people and there is this stupid notion that it's discriminatory and not "fair" to only card young-looking people, so everybody gets carded.FBM wrote:Last I heard, they're required by law to ID you regardless of how old you appear.

Knockout Game Turns Deadly: 60 Year Old Woman Shoots and Kills 2 Teens After Being Punched
Police are still trying to piece together the events of Monday night after a woman was attacked and then fired shots into the crowd of teens that assulted her.
Beulah Montgomery, who just turned 60 yesterday, says she was walking home after purchasing lottery tickets when she says a group of teens, 7 of them, approached her. Montgomery initally thought they were going to attempt to steal her purse but says she was instead hit by one of the individuals as a second attempted to hit her. That's when she grabbed her gun.
"All I could feel was pain and I said to myself I had made it to 60 and I wanted to atleast see 61," she recalled. "Then I started praying and I asked the Lord to guide my hands" Montgomery says she then reached into her purse and and shot in the direction of the teens and they started to flee. However two of them didn't make without being hit.
Beulah who is a member of her local neighborhood watch said she has always carried a gun after being mugged once before. "Its a shame you can't walk through your own neighborhood where you are supposed to feel safe without being assulted and mistreated," she continues. "I purchased the gun hoping I would never have to use it, but I'm glad to still be in the land of the living."
The same cannot be said for her two victims, Montgomery fired 5 times hitting one of the teens in the chest and the other in the stomach. Because of their age police are not releasing the names at this time, but are saying the teens died as a result of the gun shot wounds. Police are still looking for the others teens who were apart of the group. Witnesses say they ran off after the gun shots were fired.
Police have not yet charged Montgomery, who has no prior arrests, but she was detained and later released.
This is the latest story in what seems to be a string of similar incidents happening over the US where teens are playing something called the "knockout game" where they approach strangers and attempt to knock them out with one punch.
Stay tuned for updates.
