Model helicopter ‘slices teenager’s throat’ in freak accident

A freak accident involving a model helicopter has resulted in the death of a teenager after his throat was cut by the blades.

Roman Pirozek Jr, 19, was flying the machine in Calvert Vaux Park in Brooklyn, New York, when he apparently lost control as he performed a stunt.

The helicopter, which was petrol-powered, is believed to have had two-foot-long blades and a high-spec rotary engine.

And, according to local reports, the blades struck Mr Pirozek in the head and neck – slicing off parts of his scalp and slitting his throat.

He was attended by the emergency services but pronounced dead at the scene.

So, idiot teenager flies remote controlled guillotine around a public space and manages to kill himself. Color me surprised. At least it wasn't some poor sod out for a jog.
Yeah well that's just, like, your opinion, man.

Could be some one annoyed with the sound of a airborne lawnmower hacked his frequency? :coffee:

Not exactly a 'freak' accident is it, a freak accident would be someone has a radio controlled model sail boat. A gust of wind blows the boat off a lake and the sail wraps itself around someone neck 2 miles away strangling them

True.
A machine with two feet long blades rotating at very high speeds, whizzing around in the air, is more of an accident waiting to happen than a fun demonstration. It was hardly unforeseeable.
Sad for the relatives, but at least it wasn't some innocent passer-by who was killed.

One of the saddest true stories I ever read was of a dad who landed on his lawn in a helicopter, and his little daughter ran up to greet him, and he picked her up high above his head, and the rotor took the top of her head off.
While there is a market for shit, there will be assholes to supply it.
