As distressing as all this is, much less attention has been given to the obvious question: why is the US so unwell? The answer, it turns out, is simple and yet deceptively complex: it's almost everything.

Our health depends on much more than just medical care. Behaviours such as diet, physical activity and even how fast we drive all have profound effects

. So do the environments that expose us to health risks or discourage healthy living, as well as social determinants of health, such as education, income and poverty.

In other words, our poor medical condition is the result of liberty...the freedom to choose to eat burgers and fries three times a day, or sit around playing X-box, or our freedom to be dependent-class schlubs.

I'd rather be "unhealthy" and free than endure the micromanaging tyranny of fuckwits who want to tell me how to live. If people want to eat themselves into an early grave, that's better than having them forced into starvation by Marxists trying to control them as in Ethiopia in 1977. Or Ukraine in 1933-1933.

It's none of the government's business how healthy or unhealthy I choose to be and I reject any interference by the government with my right to voluntarily assume risks, be it from owning guns, mountain climbing, or eating.
