They rarely break cover like that. There's usually a run-up period when they're getting themselves ready for another murder, and then they hang out in their comfort zone until they consider everything is safe before they act. They're easily scared off or there would be more murders, and more chances to catch them.Sean Hayden wrote:Wow, did you pick up on anything that might have given him away during the time you spent interacting with him?

I think parenting should have best practices and periodic reviews. The best practices themselves should also have periodic reviews. I think parents often think they know what's right but there are parents who actually work at being parents and parents who don't and that makes a big difference.
For example, my mom prevented my two youngest sisters from graduating high school. I've never wanted government involvement more.

Never liked him, he was a creep. He had a bad temper but I never saw him get violent. He talked about sex continuously, made obscene comments about almost every woman that came in to the station. He eventually got fired when women started complaining about the suggestive and lewd comments he made to them. Wouldn't have surprised anyone if he'd been arrested for rape or stalking, but nobody saw serial murder in him. One of the guys we worked with was a Florida state cop picking up a few extra bucks, he apparently didn't see anything actionable either.Sean Hayden wrote: Wow, did you pick up on anything that might have given him away during the time you spent interacting with him?
They hide in plain sight.

If children commit crimes, and it can be shown that parental neglect was a contributing factor (e.g. allowing truancy), then there should be consequences for those parents.Sean Hayden wrote:I don't believe children are blank slates.
Having said that I do wonder if the correlation between horrible environments and future criminal behavior isn't a significant challenge to that view.
Those who wish to punish parents for the actions of their children must contend with the many criminals from families that should not have produced them (according to those who believe families produce criminals) and also with the cases of homes that "produce" one criminal but not others.
It's all very complicated. I wouldn't want to say anything as general as children that are criminals are such because of their parents/family.
Difficult to prove in a court, I suppose...
Nurse, where the fuck's my cardigan?
