Wasn't easy in the program I saw.
They couldn't get near the cow, and you do need to get near with darts.
Black bears go up a tree, you can get close and get a good shot. Other bears, you would need a helicopter or something.
That's easy out in the wilds, but not around people and houses, and electric pylons etc.

As I mentioned in another thread a few weeks ago, I once saw a cow plough straight into a car in the mid-1980's. The cow (part of a herd on the road) kept going. The bodywork damage on the car was very extensive.

From what I can remember, they were saying that animal sedatives, that just make animals woozy, are absolutely lethal to humans, even if you just prick yourself accidentally. There is a reluctance by vets to handle them, unless they are specially trained.

No kidding. Way back when I used to work for a veterinarian, we got called out several times to shoot an escaped bull or cow (usually from a visiting rodeo) with a tranquilizer dart. Interesting fact: 0.5cc (I forget how many mg) of xylazine will just sedate a largish dog, but it will almost put a 1,000 lb bovine in a coma.
