When I was in high school, I worked a couple of fast food jobs. I was always surprised at how good the food was when it was actually prepared carefully and eaten fresh. But when made en masse and put under heat lamps forever, it's fucking awful.

The stuff we made for each other and for ourselves bore almost no resemblance to what regular customers received.

Oh yeah....and there was always one douchebag asst. manager who would have to personally inspect our food before we ate it, just to make sure we weren't stealing an extra pickle or squirt of ketchup.

When I was in high school I worked in the cafeteria at the University of Waterloo. I always got shit from the manager (old frumpy bitch - I think she was Welsh) for giving out generous portions. The job paid crap, and the boss was a total bitch, but the people were cool. The head chef was from Liverpool, one of the sous-chefs was from Vietnam (he liked to engage in mock fights, usually with me. Never did figure out why. He'd just launch an attack on me out of the blue then end by laughing), a lot of nice people. Plus I took the opportunity to make my own lunches/dinners and ate very well.
