We sure are sucking up the world oil. Better tell Obama to push smaller cars through as soon as he is reelected.

Stick yer small cars in yer boot. I like my big diesel truck thank you.

Besides I can make biodiesel from used vegetable oil for it and have a smaller carbon footprint than some wanktossslurpee in a Toyota Corolla. :smug:

Unfortunately, that supply too will become more expensive and scarce, unless we find another source.

The oil shales in Canada might prove a stop gap in the event of a dollar collapse, and ethonal production in Brazil is another ready made supply. Why invade the middle east when it can be sorted on your own doorstep.

Not so sure. We're deep-frying every damn thing, these days. I don't think we'll run short of waste veggie oil unless everybody with a diesel starts buying it up and putting it in the fuel tank. Like I do.

No such thing as an environmentally friendly car even if it ran on compressed air, public transport is the way forward. If you are in a place that is too low density to have public transport then move

The public transportation we have is so poor that it would take me 2 hours for a 40 min trip.

I'm hoping to move to a college town of 200 000 or less within 5 years.

It seems like everything's taking longer these days. The other day I sat down to watch 60 minutes and it took three hours!

More likely, they'll buy it straight off the supermarket shelf at first. This will create scarcity. Then there'll be no supply at the supermarket. It will all go for fuel, and the price will have rocketed for it.

Ot is already significantly cheaper due to heavy fuel taxation.

Unless we develop a source of fuel for the internal combustion engine, then even the fuel you use will become a scarcity.a

It could be, and it may be a regional thing. Diesel cars and trucks aren't very popular in the US, but more so in Europe and Asia, I think. I started buying off the shelf just to test the principle. After I found a source of waste veggie oil, I just filter it and pour it in the tank. It's illegal, so I have to do it at night. But anyway, yeah, I don't recommend it as a sole solution. I don't think we should try to find just a single solution. That got us where we are today with the petro-fuel problem. We need a variety of renewable fuels. Solar, waste veggie oil, wind, etc, so that there's no monopoly.
